We are seeking an experienced Design Engineer to join a technical design department, supporting the delivery of compliant, high-quality mechanical and electrical building services solutions. The role focuses on ensuring technical compliance, maintaining high installation standards, and enhancing service delivery through effective design management and correct product selection. This position is suited to an engineer with strong technical capability across mechanical and electrical disciplines and a solid understanding of UK construction standards and regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure design projects are delivered to specification and comply with all relevant industry regulations and legislation.
- Demonstrate knowledge and application of RIBA stages across project lifecycles.
- Undertake technical site inspections and support installation activities.
- Work closely with Project Managers to ensure installations comply with approved designs and specifications.
- Review consultant designs and calculations for design-and-build projects.
- Advise the estimating team on technical compliance and value engineering opportunities.
- Attend client and internal design team meetings on design-and-build projects.
- Work with the procurement team to ensure correct product selection, supply, and technical submissions to clients.
- Review and assess new products entering the market.
- Attend client pre-start meetings, demonstrating technical and professional capability.
- Review and appraise supplier and subcontractor quotations, commenting on compliance with specifications and drawings.
- Ensure compliance with all statutory and regulatory obligations, including submissions to statutory authorities and obtaining approvals as required.
- Keep the Design Team fully informed of all technical and project-related information throughout the project duration.
- Review all design information and ensure calculations are prepared and signed off in accordance with relevant standards and codes of practice.
- Represent the company at client, design team, and progress meetings during design and construction phases.
- Review commissioning reports to ensure compliance with design intent and specifications.
- Prepare and issue record "as installed" drawings for CAD.
- Control office-based production aspects of projects.
- Take ownership of projects, working accurately, independently, and efficiently.
- Communicate effectively and work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Support the development and task management of trainee engineers.
Candidate Profile
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Strong technical experience across mechanical and public health systems.
- Working knowledge of UK construction standards and statutory requirements.
- Experience in both design and installation support roles.
- Ability to manage multiple technical tasks and priorities.
- Strong communication, coordination, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Proactive approach to professional development.
