Company Description: The UK Government has established UK Fusion Energy (UKFE) Ltd, a subsidiary of the UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA), to deliver fusion energy through the design and delivery of the Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production (STEP) prototype plant. The goal is to achieve a prototype fusion plant with first operations around 2040. UKFE is building a fusion supply chain with an estimated global sector value of £7bn per year, and it seeks talented individuals to join this pioneering journey.

Location and Working Arrangement: Based at West Burton, Nottinghamshire; onsite working expected for 3 days each week.

Role Overview: The Supercluster Coordination Manager works within the Trent Supercluster to align STEP Fusion’s programme needs with regional ambition, translating insight into practical work programmes that develop skills, strengthen the supply chain, and advance local research.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop a framework for defining STEP programme requirements; identify and articulate STEP’s priority needs across supply chain, skills and research.
  • Manage relationships with Supercluster leads; build strong, trusted relationships with stakeholders and act as an effective advocate for STEP.
  • Translate programme requirements into clear, actionable work packages and coordinate purposeful workstreams across skills, supply chain and R&D.
  • Establish stakeholder reporting, governance and assurance; track progress, benefits and impact, support key documentation and continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrate a leadership mindset, model inclusive behaviours, and contribute to a collaborative workplace that reflects UKFE values.

Qualifications:

  • A degree (or equivalent) in a scientific or engineering discipline.
  • Experience coordinating activities with multiple internal and external partners, often senior stakeholders.
  • Strong cross-partnership working skills, including engagement with UKAEA, local authorities, education providers and industry.
  • Several years of experience organising and delivering STEM outreach activities, with the ability to present complex technical issues clearly.
  • Confidence as a public speaker to varied audiences from primary schools to universities and community events.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organisational and influencing skills.
  • Understanding of social value opportunities related to large infrastructure projects.
  • Prioritisation, flexibility and strong teamwork abilities.

Desirable: experience evaluating science communication activities, monitoring social value or capturing programme benefits, and knowledge of UKAEA programmes and strategic goals.

Additional Requirements: Ability to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) and Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks. Possession of SC clearance is not required at present but may be required in the future.
