The Engineering Analysis Group Lead role offers a salary of £71,815 (inclusive of a Specialist Allowance). Onsite working is expected for 3 days each week, with flexible working requests considered. The role is based at UKAEA Culham, Oxfordshire. The role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) checks, including Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions and possibly a search of open source data.

As Engineering Analysis Group Lead, you will lead the Engineering Analysis Group, providing specialist staff and technical expertise to support complex substantiation and qualification work across UKAEA projects and programmes. You will manage the group, provide strategic management and planning, and develop processes and methods for effective delivery. You will engage with senior project and programme managers to develop strategic relationships and ensure timely and effective support. You will provide specialist technical knowledge in CAE tools and lead the development of team leads to manage technical leadership for design substantiation of complex products and systems with demanding performance requirements. You will implement and improve quality processes relevant to Engineering Analysis and Simulation.

Key Accountabilities

  • Technical / Professional: Act as a Technical Reference for all divisions in CAE tooling, define and implement processes and standards to manage design, analysis and qualification work from concept to detailed design; act as arbitrator on technical conflicts; promote group capabilities across divisions and external partners.
  • Project Management: Ensure effective management of analysis and qualification activities for projects or work packages; lead technical delivery of engineering solutions while identifying and complying with relevant legislation, codes and site procedures; ensure designs are appropriately qualified by computation or experiment and adhere to international and fusion-specific design standards.
  • People Management: Manage workload and development of group employees; develop team leads to align with objectives; drive capability development and training for engineering analysis; develop training plans for all involved staff; establish strategic client relationships to identify analytical support needs and define work packages within budgets.

Qualifications

Essential: A relevant engineering degree or equivalent experience. Chartered Engineer Status or NAFEMS PSE (Professional Simulation Engineer) Certification at Advanced level. Other professional status certifications considered on merit. Experience in direct line management and development of engineers. Experience in managing large qualification work packages involving multiple analysts of different disciplines.

Desirable: Experience in quality management of engineering analysis work. Experience delivering analytical work for fusion-related projects.
