Fusebox is looking for a Story Associate on a 6 months contract to work with their senior Writers on various upcoming projects due to ongoing growth in the business. This position is suited to people with enthusiasm for interactive narrative, and are looking to start a career in the gaming industry. Reporting to the Head of Narrative, a substantial requirement of this role will involve collaborating with both internal and external content contributors and writers.
Location: Remote with some in-person work sessions in London (so ideally based in or around London). We won’t be accepting applications from outside the UK.
Responsibilities:
- Support the Senior Writers and team writers to invent worlds, stories, and characters for current and new interactive games.
- Participate in writers rooms and creative brainstorms as well as take notes and organise notes for the overall team and stakeholders.
- Contribute to story arcs for various stories and seasons (both original and IP content).
- Peer review of all outlines, scripts and ancillary copy.
- Contribute to the writing and editing of outlines, scripts and other material.
- Track and implement Fusebox Studio's Interactive Fiction Narrative Best Practices.
- Collaborate with other writers and artists associated with Fusebox stories.
- Play test story chapters and provide feedback as well as iteration.
- General administrative duties to support the narrative team, including updating a database of writer contact details and availability, organising story/character development work, etc.
Requirements:
- Experience or education in writing for mobile games, interactive fiction, TV, films, novels, serialised fiction apps, plays or other entertainment content.
- Ability to be creative, flexible, nimble and solution-focused in a fast moving creative environment.
- Script reading experience.
- Ability to work both independently as well as a part of a team and desire to pitch in wherever needed.
- Enthusiasm for the collaborative process and especially for receiving, sharing, and implementing feedback.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to replicate or mimic an existing world with its own set of rules, characters, continuity, and tone as well as invent new ones.
- Good ear for dialogue.
Nice to have:
- A passion for serialised storytelling and interest in Interactive Fiction.
- Knowledge of romantic genres and properties.
- Understanding of how story is used in mobile free-to-play games, such as Fusebox's competitors, as well as Fusebox's existing stories.
- Experience working on successful mobile free-to-play games and stories and/or knowledge of the free-to-play mobile narrative market.
- Familiarity with choice structure and Interactive Fiction Narrative Best Practices.
- Understanding of free-to-play game mechanics.
