Description
Fuse Energy is an energy startup on a mission to make energy abundant and affordable, fast. We combine first-principles thinking with cutting-edge technology to build a radically better energy system.
We've raised over $200M from top-tier investors including Balderton, Lakestar, Accel, Creandum, Lowercarbon, Ribbit, 20VC, Hummingbird and Collaborative Fund, alongside strategic angels including Nico Rosberg and GPs behind Meta, Revolut, Spotify and Uber.
We're building a fully integrated energy company: developing our own solar, batteries and other generation projects, building our own hardware, improving and developing grid infrastructure, trading power in real time, using AI across the business, and installing distributed energy in homes. By selling directly to consumers we cut out the middleman, lower costs and pass the savings on to our customers.
As we continue to develop cutting-edge technologies and sustainable energy solutions, we are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our hardware team and help take our in-house power electronics and energy storage products from concept through to mass production. You’ll own mechanical design end to end, work closely with electrical and firmware engineers, and engage directly with suppliers and test labs to get products built, certified and shipped.
Responsibilities
- Own the mechanical design of power electronics and energy storage hardware, from concept and architecture through detailed design, prototyping and production release
- Design enclosures, structural components, thermal management and sealing solutions for indoor and outdoor consumer products
- Design for manufacture and assembly across injection moulding, sheet metal, die casting and extrusion; drive tolerance analysis and reviews with suppliers
- Support product compliance and certification activities, working with test labs to meet IEC/EN, UKCA and CE requirements
- Source, qualify and manage mechanical component and tooling suppliers, including on-site visits and production ramp support
- Build and execute test plans; analyse experimental and simulation data to drive design decisions
- Maintain CAD models, drawings, BOMs and engineering change control
- Contribute to feasibility studies and early concept work on new hardware programmes
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum 3 years of experience in mechanical design for hardware products that have reached production
- Strong proficiency in 3D CAD and GD&T
- Hands-on experience with DFM for moulded, sheet metal or cast parts
- Experience working directly with suppliers and contract manufacturers
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a track record of taking designs from prototype to production
- Clear communicator who works well in a cross-functional team and can manage multiple projects simultaneously
Nice to have
- Master’s or PhD in Mechanical Engineering
- Experience designing power electronics products (inverters, chargers, PSUs or battery systems), including thermal design for high-power-density electronics
- Familiarity with product safety and EMC standards
- Experience with FEA and CFD
- Experience managing tooling and production ramps with overseas suppliers
Benefits
- Competitive salary and eligibility for equity
- Biannual bonus scheme
- Fully expensed tech to match your needs
- Private health insurance
- Breakfast and dinner allowance for office-based employees
As we hire globally, benefits may vary by location.
