Fuse Energy
Description

Fuse Energy is a forward-thinking renewable energy startup on a mission to deliver a terawatt of renewable energy, fast. We’re combining first-principles thinking with cutting-edge technology to build a radically better energy system. We’ve raised more than $210M from top-tier investors including Multicoin, Balderton, Lakestar, Accel, Creandum, Lowercarbon, Ribbit, Box Group and strategic angels like Nico Rosberg, the co-founder of Solana and GPs behind Meta, Revolut, Spotify and Uber. We’re building a fully integrated energy company: from developing solar, wind and battery projects to real-time power trading and distributed energy installations. By selling directly to consumers, we cut out the middleman, lower costs and pass savings on to customers.

Fuse is a multi-entity group that is expanding internationally at pace. New entities, new jurisdictions and new activities are being added continuously, and the group's tax position over the coming years will be shaped by decisions made today.

This role owns group tax end to end: the compliance that has to be right, and the structuring that decides the group’s overall tax burden. You will be our first dedicated tax hire, so you set the policy, select and direct the advisers and build the process, rather than inheriting someone else's.

Responsibilities

  • Group structuring and value creation: the corporate structure, entity footprint, intercompany agreements and internal financing arrangements across the group. Acquisition structuring, holding structures for new markets, cash repatriation and the arrangements that sit between entities. You find where value is leaking and propose the fix, not just document what already exists.
  • Group tax compliance: UK corporation tax, VAT, payroll and indirect taxes, plus US and other international obligations as we enter new markets. You own filings, payments and deadlines across every entity.
  • Transfer pricing: policy, documentation and intercompany pricing across a structure that gains entities regularly, working with external advisers to keep it current and defensible.
  • Reliefs and credits: R&D claims, capital allowances and full expensing on generation and storage assets, group relief, and the loss and interest restriction planning that comes with a capital-intensive group.
  • Compliance financial reporting: statutory, regulatory and filing obligations across Companies House, HMRC, Ofgem and their overseas equivalents, accurate and on schedule.
  • Corporate and general admin tied to compliance: new entity incorporation and set-up, company secretarial, registrations and the operational tasks that come with standing up a global group.

Requirements
  • Qualified accountant or tax adviser (ACA, ACCA, CTA or equivalent) with a strong tax background, ideally practice-trained or a mix of practice and in-house.
  • Real exposure to group structuring, transfer pricing design, M&A tax or financing structures. This is the part we care most about.
  • Solid working knowledge of UK tax (corporation tax, VAT, payroll). Exposure to US or other international tax is a strong plus.
  • Comfortable owning a domain without hand-holding in a fast, ambiguous environment.
  • Highly organised, deadline-driven and detail-obsessed, with the judgement to know what's material.
  • First-principles thinker who wants to build clean processes, not just maintain them.

Bonus:

  • Experience standing up entities in new jurisdictions.
  • Energy, trading or other regulated-sector experience.
  • Offshore and holding-structure tax experience.

Benefits
  • Competitive salary and equity ownership opportunities, you share in what you help build
  • Support from analysts and interns across the finance team, and the latest AI products and tools, both in-house and external, to keep your time on judgement rather than admin
  • Bi-annual bonus scheme
  • Fully expensed tech to match your needs
  • Paid annual leave
  • Breakfast and dinner allowance for office based employees
  • A front-row seat at a fast-growing, well-funded energy company solving a problem that matters, with real ownership and high autonomy from day one alongside an exceptional, first-principles team.
