We are currently seeking an experienced HGV Technician to join our Service Department team based at our head office premises in Askam-In-Furness. Joining our well-established family business, we provide automotive services to clients across the North, promoting operational excellence and always seeking to improve our workshop facilities to meet the demand of the ever-evolving automotive industry.
Our service department operates a fully equipped workshop undertaking service, repair, maintenance and MOTs to a variety of cars, vans, light and heavy commercial vehicles. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in maintaining and repairing heavy goods vehicles, ensuring that they are safe and roadworthy at all times. This role may also suit an experienced vehicle mechanic looking to progress into a HGV technician role.
Full Time - 08:30 to 17:00 Monday to Friday (no overtime or on-call requirement)
Location – Askam in Furness
Salary - £35,000 to £42,000 per year dependant on experience
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct routine maintenance checks and inspections on HGVs to identify any faults or defects.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues, and perform repairs as necessary.
- Carry out servicing and preventative maintenance tasks according to manufacturer guidelines.
- Complete all necessary paperwork and documentation accurately and promptly.
- Perform road tests to ensure that repairs have been carried out effectively.
- Adhere to health and safety regulations and maintain a clean and safe working environment.
- Provide assistance and support to other members of the workshop team as required.

What we're looking for:
- Proven experience as an HGV Technician or similar role.
- NVQ Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair or equivalent motor vehicle qualification.
- Full valid driving license with Cat B or Cat B+E.
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills with a minimum of 1+ years’ experience in diagnostics and repair of heavy vehicles to a high standard.
- MOT tester (advantage but not essential).
- Cat C or Cat C+E licence (advantage but not essential).
- Ability to pass CRB Check and/or Local Police Vetting.
- Awareness and understanding of health and safety requirements.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to excellent quality work standards.
- Flexible approach to role and working environment.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and make decisions.
