The Opportunity
We are looking for a compassionate and reliable individual to join us as an Out of Hours Funeral Service Operative, supporting our on-call rota. This is a unique and flexible role focused solely on bringing loved ones into our care when a death occurs out of hours. You will often be the first point of contact for families during difficult times, so professionalism, empathy, and discretion are essential. Unlike a full-time Funeral Service Operative role, this position is dedicated exclusively to overnight, on-call work, with no daytime or weekend commitments required.
Working Pattern
- On-call between 8:00pm and 8:00am, Saturday to Sunday only
- Minimum commitment of one Saturday & Sunday in every 4 week period
- Shifts can be worked one weekend consecutively or across different weekends
- You are not required to remain on site – simply be available to attend when needed
This flexibility makes the role particularly suitable for students or individuals with other work or daytime commitments.

- Responding to out-of-hours calls when required

About You
We are looking for someone who:
- Is calm, dependable, and able to respond promptly when on call
- Has a caring and respectful approach to sensitive situations
- Can work independently during overnight hours
- Holds a full UK manual driving licence
- Has good communication and customer service skills
Previous experience in the funeral industry is not essential – full training will be provided.
