AI Scientist

This is a high-impact, hands-on leadership role with the opportunity to shape Fundment’s AI capabilities from the ground up. Reporting to our Head of Data & Analytics, you will lead the design and delivery of AI systems and infrastructure to drive business growth and enhance operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Set the functional vision and roadmap for Fundment’s AI capabilities, identifying components needed to ensure alignment with our business goals.
• Enable our AI apps to operate in a high-trust environment, where error tolerance is low and carefully designed guardrails are needed.
• Ensure our AI systems adhere to all applicable data regulatory requirements, AI ethical guidelines, and employ Explainable AI (XAI) techniques.
• Build the GenAI and agentic models that will power our AI products.
• Turn complex and ambiguous questions into structured analyses, clear metrics, and practical recommendations.
• Develop frameworks for assessing model performance, user outcomes, and business impact.
• Define how we measure the quality, reliability, and impact of AI-powered product experiences.
• Design and analyse experiments to evaluate product changes, model updates, and new AI features.
• Identify bias, drift, failure modes, and data quality issues in production AI systems.
• Partner closely with engineering and product to improve logging, instrumentation, and evaluation workflows.
• Communicate results clearly, including uncertainty, assumptions, and decision trade-offs.
• Help build a culture of rigorous experimentation and evidence-based product development.
• Build our AI scientist and engineering capability and recruit other AI professionals of the highest calibre.
• Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and quality assurance frameworks to our multi-disciplinary team of analysts, data scientists and data engineers.
• Work closely with our product and engineering teams to embed our AI capabilities into our platform.
• Translate requirements into technical specifications and project plans, overseeing execution from conception to production.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams across the company to help both technical and non-technical users leverage our AI capabilities in an optimal and secure way.

Required Skills / Experience

• Proven experience (7+ years) in data-driven systems, GenAI, NLP or AI engineering.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Solid understanding of statistical text processing and analysis.
• Advanced proficiency in SQL for data manipulation and analysis.
• Advanced proficiency in Python.
• A strong grounding in statistics, experimental design, and inference.
• Experienced in architecting AI systems using LLMs, RAG and AI agents.
• Experienced in evaluating AL/ML models for robust outcomes.
• Experience with maintaining AI/ML models and quickly detecting issues.
• Ability to turn open-ended questions into clear product plans, robust metrics, and actionable steps to launch.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Skills / Experience

• Experience in a startup or high-growth environment.
• Knowledge of data privacy and AI regulation, preferably within financial services.
• Familiarity with experimentation platforms, dashboards, or analytics tooling.
• Experience in AI products, SaaS, marketplaces, or other data-rich product environments.

Pay range and compensation package

Competitive salary. 28 days annual leave plus bank holidays, enhanced pension contribution, enhanced parental leave, private healthcare, regular salary reviews, and hybrid working 3 days a week in our beautiful Fitzrovia-based offices.
