We are on a mission to back the UK's small businesses like no one else. Small businesses are the backbone of the economy, and we are here to help them win. We have built a platform that uses clever data to get them the funding they need in minutes, not weeks.

At Funding Circle, we have the restless energy of a fintech start-up with the stability of a public company. It is a unique mix that gives Circlers the autonomy to take ownership and the scale to make an impact that truly counts. We are a high-performing team that chooses to lift each other up. We challenge, we champion, and we have each other's backs - because we know that when we stand together, we move faster and build better.

The impact is real: Last year alone, the businesses on our platform generated £7.2bn for the UK economy. Come and join a mission that matters!

As Paralegal, you will primarily support the commercial legal function with the opportunity to work with the capital markets and company secretary teams. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Commercial & Regulatory Support: Working with stakeholders across procurement, sales, brand and marketing, data, technology and product to provide pragmatic legal advice on a range of initiatives. This includes contracts, data protection, intellectual property, development of new lending products, and financial services regulation.
  • Contract Management: Reviewing and amending a range of contracts, including our customer terms and conditions, non-disclosure agreements, partnership and marketing contracts. Reviewing security documents relating to our finance products.
  • Data Protection: Reviewing and responding to personal data requests (right of access or erasure), completing privacy impact assessments. Assisting with the upkeep of data protection policies and training materials, and template DPAs, and maintaining privacy notices.
  • Legal Operations & Tech: Taking a hands-on role in the optimisation of the legal function through the adoption of technology, including generative AI. Developing and owning processes to enhance the team's efficiency, including maintaining templates, legal knowledge and keeping our commercial contracts playbook up to date. Monitoring, allocating, and tracking requests for legal support from business teams via a service desk and shared inbox, ensuring no tasks are missed.
  • Horizon Scanning: Broadening your legal and regulatory knowledge through research and horizon scanning.

What we are looking for:

  • We value deep expertise, but a growth mindset and good energy are what really make our team click. We are a group that chooses to lift each other up and think smart every day.
  • Strong academics, degree (or equivalent), preferable to have completed the GDL or SQE Part 1 (if not possessing a law degree) but not essential.
  • 2+ years experience working in a legal environment, either at a law firm or in-house. Exceptional candidates with less experience will also be considered.
  • Excellent communication skills; you are keen to learn, and embrace collaboration.
  • You manage a varied workload, you meet deadlines and are comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
  • You are a team-player, you contribute to team initiatives and your team-mates can depend on you.

We are building a place where everyone truly feels they belong. Even if your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every requirement, we would still love to hear from you.

Why join us? We back you to build an incredible career. As a flexible-first employer, we use a best of both approach. We will see you in our London office to collaborate – with barista coffee and subsidised Just Eat lunches on us!
