Role Description

Fundamentally Dance is casting dancers for a new large-scale touring production, premiering in London before visiting major theatres across the UK and beyond.

The work is thematically set in New York set to the music of James Brown, Etta James, and Sam Cooke, drawing on the spirit of the soul and funk era to celebrate rhythm, power, and collective expression. We are seeking versatile and dynamic performers with strong ballet and jazz technique, and proficiency in funk and street styles. Successful candidates will not only bring technical excellence and stage presence, but also embody the values of Fundamentally Dance — artists who are collaborators, innovators, and ambassadors for a new class-leading model of touring dance.

Location

London (with UK regional touring to major theatres; potential for international travel)

Dates

• In-studio development: 24 November – 5 December 2025
• Creation period: w/c 31st August, 4 weeks (exact dates TBC)
• Touring: 30 September – 26 November 2026 (London & major UK theatres, with further dates being added)

Extended touring period in 2027

Casting breakdown

• Female Dancer – Strong ballet technique with comprehensive jazz experience
• Male Dancer – Excellent ballet partnering technique; proficient in jazz and funk styles
• Female Dancer – Versatile classical technique with jazz experience
• Male Dancer – Strong stage presence with comedic timing; proficient in jazz, ballet, and funk styles
• Male Dancer(s) – Skilled in popping and locking alongside proficient jazz and ballet technique
• Male Dancer(s) – Familiar with funk styles alongside proficient jazz and ballet technique

Requirements

• Professional-level ballet and jazz technique
• Commitment to maintaining peak physical condition in order to deliver your best work
• Ability to work confidently in funk and street-based dance forms (where specified)
• Strong stage presence and performance quality
• Solid partnering skills and experience working with other dancers
• Strong work ethic, adaptability, and readiness for a touring schedule
• Professional presence and pride in your role across rehearsals, events, and performances
• Right to work in the UK and valid visa status (where applicable)

Nice to have

• Previous experience in national or international touring productions
• Experience working across multiple genres or hybrid dance projects
• Flexibility and readiness for international touring engagements
