About the role

This is a permanent, full-time role working across a mix of office, operational and project environments in the Canterbury region. You will be part of a supportive environmental team that provides practical, solutions-focused advice to our construction and maintenance operations. Your work will directly contribute to compliance with resource consents, continuous improvement of our environmental management system, and the roll-out of our regional sustainability and carbon reduction initiatives.

Key responsibilities

  • Help maintain and improve our environmental management system, plans and training, aligned with ISO 14001 and Fulton Hogan’s sustainability commitments
  • Coordinate and complete site environmental audits and prepare timely, practical reports for operational managers
  • Support environmental investigations, identify potential or existing environmental issues, and help develop risk-based, workable solutions
  • Assist with resource consent applications and related documentation, including using tools such as CSVUE and, where required, project managing external consent processes
  • Monitor and support compliance with resource consent conditions, and help identify and communicate changes in relevant environmental legislation
  • Contribute to sustainability initiatives and identification of practicable sustainable solutions for departments
  • Assist with environmental training (e.g. Envirowise), and help build environmental awareness and capability across the region

We’re looking for someone with

  • A formal qualification in Environmental Management, Environmental Planning or a related discipline
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in regulatory planning and compliance processes
  • Experience with environmental management systems and resource consent compliance, ideally in a civil construction, quarrying or related infrastructure environment
  • A current Class 1 driver’s licence
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build and maintain solid relationships across different levels of the organisation
  • Solid time management and organisational skills
  • A solution-focused mindset, with good problem-solving skills and a continuous improvement approach
