The post holder will liaise with key members of the CDC, MDT and service users, oversee all aspects of patient care including direct clinical management of unwell patients and those affected by adverse reactions to contrast medium, and support the CDC services during medical emergencies. They will work a rota covering 08:00‑20:00, 7 days a week, supervise nursing staff, monitor staffing levels, and liaise with the clinical nurse manager regarding out‑patient services. They will respond to patient, relative and carer concerns, ensure quality, safety and infection prevention & control standards, and act as an effective role model and mentor aligned with the Trust values.

Main Duties of the Job

  • Provide daily emergency cover and assist at ILS level when senior staff are absent.
  • Carry out planned diagnostics and assessments for patients independently, seeking advice as necessary.
  • Plan, implement and evaluate evidence‑based, individualised patient care.
  • Assist and advise registered and non‑registered staff in patient care delivery.
  • Maintain accurate clinical observations and act accordingly.
  • Collate monthly/annual reports of own and team activity.
  • Maintain data quality standards and support electronic information systems training.
  • Adhere to Trust and local guidelines for ordering tests and accessing results via Cerner.
  • Model use of Trust intranet and internet for staff.
  • Act as patient advocate and support patients with adverse contrast reactions or medical emergencies.
  • Ensure high standards of hygiene, safety, and infection control in the clinical area.
  • Participate in audits, recommend improvements, and develop local action plans.
  • Investigate complaints, accident reports and untoward incidents and implement recommendations.
  • Identify and manage clinical risks in accordance with Trust Risk Management policy.
  • Perform nursing procedures including venepuncture and ILS.
  • Take responsibility for transportation and timely departure of patients.
  • Maintain safe custody, storage and recording of medication, including controlled drugs.
  • Participate in service and policy development, ensuring compliance and contributing to Trust business planning.
  • Manage non‑staff budget and efficient use of resources.
  • Ensure confidentiality of patient identifiable information.
  • Seek evidence‑based practices, develop benchmarks, lead local audits, and share findings across the Trust.
  • Make complex judgments, advise health professionals, and communicate effectively with staff and patients.
  • Provide leadership to clinical teams, manage resources, and support staff engagement.
  • Meet physical demands such as daily computer use, manual handling and high‑stress environments.

  • Substantial post‑registration experience in a clinical setting

  • Proven experience of monitoring and acting on nursing quality data and developing appropriate action plans
