This post is primarily a training role. The successful post holder will be working within an experienced team of Resuscitation Practitioners and trainers and will be involved in the educational, clinical and research elements of resuscitation. The post will require the candidate to be able to deliver basic to advanced life support to a variety of clinical and non-clinical staff. The Junior Resuscitation Practitioner (JRP) will implement and deliver resuscitation training to appropriate groups of staff within the Trust. The post holder will also form part of the medical emergency/cardiac arrest team and will be actively involved in deploying advanced resuscitation interventions, e.g. mechanical compressions and intraosseous access.
Main duties of the job
- Deliver basic/immediate/intermediate life support sessions unsupervised following pre-determined lesson plans, after a period of supervision, in a variety of flexible ways, recording performance.
- Assist in the maintenance of training records and databases as needed by the Service.
- Ensure timely reporting of critical incidents as per Trust policy.
- Report any resuscitation equipment deficits and ensure that appropriate action has taken place.
- Ensure resuscitation equipment in all areas is checked regularly, regularly appraised and risks assessed.
- Input data to resuscitation databases – resuscitation outcomes, clinical risks, all training programmes and participant attendance.
- Provide and circulate data to relevant stakeholders as directed by the Clinical Lead for Resuscitation.
- Provide guidance, support and supervision to the Resuscitation Service Technician and Resuscitation Trainers.
- Ensure resuscitation related audits are carried out and reported formally to the LRP or other suitable committee.

Job Description and Responsibilities
- In collaboration with the Lead Resuscitation Practitioner (LRP), Resuscitation Practitioners (RP) and the Resuscitation Committee, assist with the development and delivery of a strategic resuscitation service responsive to patients’ needs across the Trust.
- Assist the LRP with co-ordination and supervision of the resuscitation service within the post holder’s area of responsibility.
- Input data to resuscitation databases – resuscitation outcomes, clinical risks, all training programmes and participant attendance.
- Provide and circulate data to relevant stakeholders as directed by the Clinical Lead for Resuscitation.
- Provide guidance, support and supervision to Resuscitation Trainers and the Resuscitation Service Technician.
- Carry out and report resuscitation-related audits to the LRP or other suitable committee.
Education and Training
- Deliver basic/immediate/intermediate life support sessions unsupervised following predetermined lesson plans, after a period of supervision, in a variety of flexible ways.
- Assess the competence of staff in performing resuscitation procedures and arrange retraining where appropriate.
- Maintain training records and databases as needed by the Service.
- Ensure efficient use of supplies and consumables; ensure training manikins are cleaned and maintained per Trust Policy.
- Participate in peer review of teaching skills as part of ongoing professional development.
- Where appropriate, attend clinical emergencies to support and guide Resuscitation Team members.
- Keep staff informed of changes in evidence-based practice related to resuscitation care from the Resuscitation Council (UK).
Research & Audit
- Assist with audit tools and data entry for resuscitation activities and patient safety drivers to measure adherence to Trust policies.
- Assist with data gathering, analysis and production of audit reports for stakeholders and help develop action plans for quality improvement.
- Be actively involved in resuscitation/critical care research projects.
Clinical Support & Practice
- Provide clinical support and advice when attending a cardiac arrest or medical emergency call as an active team member.
- Ensure Resuscitation Team members have access to psychological support and clinical supervision; assist with debriefing as appropriate.
- Provide support and guidance to colleagues in resuscitation-related decision-making.
- Communicate clearly with a wide range of people within the Trust.
- Ensure accurate documentation in line with professional conduct.
Clinical Governance
- Timely reporting of critical incidents as per Trust policy.
- Report resuscitation equipment deficits and ensure appropriate action.
- Check resuscitation equipment regularly; ensure appraisal and risk assessment.
- Identify consistently poor performers and discuss concerns with the LRP.
Professional
- Stay updated with resuscitation issues and professional regulatory bodies (NMC, GMC, HCPC).
- Be an effective role model and participate in the Resuscitation Committee.
- Maintain professional education and development.
- Promote and maintain effective working relationships across the Trust; advocate for patients and communicate clearly.
- Act in accordance with PAH NHS Trust guidelines and regulatory bodies, with emphasis on competence and conduct.
Qualifications
- Essential: RN/ODP/Paramedic; Resuscitation Council (UK) ALS Instructor
- Desirable: Resuscitation Council (UK) pILS Instructor; ENB 998 or equivalent; EPALS/APLS Provider/Instructor; degree-level education or working toward it
Experience
- Essential: Experience in an acute care environment; experience in Clinical Skills/Resuscitation skills training; experience in project management
