The post holder will be expected to liaise with all key members of the CDC, MDT (multidisciplinary team) and service users related to all CDC activities and pathways. The post holder will be responsible for all aspects of patient care, including directly clinically managing unwell patients within all specialities and patients affected by adverse reactions to contrast medium. The post holder will support the CDC services during medical emergencies and will rota across the CDC operational hours (08:00‑20:00) seven days per week, supervising the nursing team and ensuring adequate staffing by monitoring planned vs actual staffing levels. The post holder will maintain the highest standards of quality, safety and infection prevention & control, manage complaints and clinical incidents, and actively participate in divisional governance meetings to continually improve patient care and satisfaction.
Main Duties of the Job

- Establish effective working relations with the CDC team to promote good communication and a multidisciplinary approach to patient care; take a lead in weekly speciality/group meetings.
- Ensure accurate and comprehensive nursing records are maintained using appropriate written and electronic documentation.
- Monitor patient feedback and use it to improve and maintain an excellent patient experience.
- Collect data and provide essential information in a timely and accurate manner for audits or monitoring of CQC standards.
- Measure patient acuity and/or dependency to inform evidence‑based decision‑making on staffing and workforce.
- Monitor and record planned vs actual staffing levels and raise issues when necessary.
- Supervise junior staff, including students, in all aspects of care and within the sphere of competency.

Responsibility for Patients
- Maintain high standards of care for all patients, monitoring through spot checks and clinical quality indicators.
- Obtain patient and relative feedback through daily clinical rounds to provide excellent care standards.
- Ensure clear communication with patients and significant others, providing empathy and reassurance regarding assessment, care and treatment.
- Ensure safeguards are in place for patients, especially those adults or children at risk.
- Coordinate transport to ensure patients are picked up and leave the department in a timely manner.
- Manage adverse reactions to contrast and any unwell patient pathways, ensuring immediate action.
- Ensure regular simulation training for medical emergencies for all clinical CDC staff.
- Maintain clean and well‑maintained clinical areas and enforce cleanliness standards for staff in charge.
Responsibility for Leading and Managing
- Day‑to‑day effective management of nursing and support staff within the CDC.
- Check resuscitation equipment daily and keep it ready for use in emergencies.
- Plan and schedule duty rotas, annual leave, study leave, monitor absences and manage temporary staff, encouraging use of bank staff.
- Lead recruitment and selection of staff, maintain low vacancy rates and systems for induction and staff appraisals.
- Liaise with other hospital staff and departments to promote effective working relationships.
- Investigate accidents, incidents and complaints, implement corrective actions in consultation with the Senior Operations Manager and Clinical Risk Management team.
- Act as an appropriate and effective role model and mentor, supporting and motivating staff.
- Participate in local and trust initiatives and establish an active learning environment for all staff grades.
- Ensure all staff attend mandatory training and receive continuing development, maintaining accurate records.
- Provide general health education and specific information about patient treatment and discharge advice.

Responsibility for Policy and Service Development
- Ensure staff act in accordance with Trust policies such as Infection Prevention and Control, Confidentiality, Health & Safety and Equal Opportunities.
- Assist with development and implementation of local and trust‑wide policies, procedures, guidelines and protocols.
- Resolve concerns about levels of care or patient incidents, escalating to the matron and reporting via the Trust's incident reporting system.
- Lead discussions and plans regarding service improvements and initiatives.
Responsibility for Financial and Physical Resources
- Accountable for general CDC environment needs, cross‑infection prevention, safe walkways, clear fire exits and proper storage of equipment and supplies.
- Accountable for safe custody, storage, usage and recording of all medication, including controlled drugs and medical gases.
- Maintain a system for monitoring non‑staff budget.
- Ensure efficient and economical use of ward supplies.
Responsibility for Information Resources
- Ensure confidentiality and safekeeping of patient identifiable information.
- Maintain effective communication systems to keep staff updated on organisational developments, including unit meetings.
Responsibility for Research, Education & Development
- Actively participate in developing evidence‑based clinical guidelines and policies for the speciality.
- Stay aware of the research process and current trends.
- Collaborate with the Senior Operations Manager, nurses and clinical lead to audit agreed clinical guidelines, policies and benchmarks within the area of clinical responsibility.
- Use the appraisal system to identify and keep mandatory training up to date.
- Develop and sustain own knowledge, clinical skills and professional awareness.
- Participate in teaching and education programmes and mentor ward staff.
- Facilitate teaching and clinical assessment of pre‑registration student nurses.
