We are seeking a talented and passionate Sous Chef to join our culinary team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in food production and culinary arts, with a keen eye for detail and a commitment to food safety. As a Sous Chef, you will play a vital role in supporting the Head Chef in managing kitchen operations, ensuring high-quality food preparation, and leading the kitchen team in a fast-paced restaurant environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Head Chef in the daily operations of the kitchen, ensuring efficient food production and service.
- Oversee food preparation and presentation to maintain high standards of quality and consistency.
- Manage kitchen staff, providing guidance and support to ensure effective teamwork and collaboration.
- Maintain strict adherence to food safety and hygiene regulations, ensuring a clean and organised kitchen environment.
- Help develop new menu items and contribute creative ideas to enhance the dining experience.
- Train new kitchen staff on proper cooking techniques, equipment use, and safety protocols.
- Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering supplies as needed to ensure smooth operations.
- Address any issues that arise during service promptly and effectively.
The Pelican in Chew Magna is looking to employ a full-time Sous Chef for the launch of our new breakfast, brunch and lunch menu. We will not be running a dinner service so this is a great opportunity to keep your evenings free.
About us:
The Peli is at the centre of the beautiful village of Chew Magna. We have just undergone a major renovation and reopened the pub with Phase 1 of the works being completed at the end of November and now Phase 2 will begin with a remodel of the kitchen and the construction of our bespoke hotel rooms.
Serving modern British food: Our dishes are homemade and hand-prepared, and we go to great lengths to source our produce responsibly and locally, all to ensure our food is the best it can be.
About you:
The candidate will have a passion for all things food such as well sourced produce and refined cooking.
The role of Sous Chef will require you to do: Day-to-day kitchen management, menu construction, inventory management, food prep, setting up, cleaning and cooking.
You will work under the direction and support of the Head Chef, and have the network of other head chefs from The Pony Restaurant Group to develop alongside.
