The Senior Accountant is a hands‑on, detail‑oriented professional responsible for managing the day‑to‑day accounting operations and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records across multiple entities. This role is deeply involved in daily financial activities, including transaction oversight, reconciliations, and cash management, while leading the month‑end and year‑end close processes. The Senior Accountant works in a fast‑paced environment, ensuring data accuracy and compliance with Canadian accounting standards (ASPE). The role also supports audits, tax processes, and continual improvement of financial systems and workflows.

Key Responsibilities

  • Daily Accounting Operations: Oversee and manage day‑to‑day accounting activities across all entities, review and maintain general ledger activity, process and review journal entries, accruals, and adjustments, monitor accounts payable, receivable, and expense tracking, investigate and resolve discrepancies.
  • Financial Reporting & Close: Lead month‑end and year‑end close processes, prepare monthly financial statements, maintain supporting schedules, perform variance analysis.
  • Cash Management: Maintain weekly cash flow, perform bank and credit card reconciliations, oversee intercompany transactions, monitor liquidity.
  • Compliance & Controls: Ensure compliance with Canadian accounting standards (ASPE) and internal policies, maintain audit‑ready financial records, support external audits and tax filings.
  • Budgeting & Financial Monitoring: Prepare budgets and forecasts, track actual performance against budget, highlight variances.
  • Systems & Process Improvement: Maintain and improve accounting systems, follow and improve SOPs, identify inefficiencies, support automation and reporting enhancements.
  • External Coordination: Liaise with external accountants, auditors, banks, and vendors, provide required documentation.
  • Other Duties: Support additional accounting and operation tasks as required.

  • Timely completion of reconciliations and month‑end close.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of Canadian accounting standards (ASPE).
  • Hands‑on experience in multiple entities and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and spreadsheet skills.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
