Head of Construction - Major Water Infrastructure Programme Location: hybrid / Peterborough / east of England/ regional travel We are looking for a Head of Construction to provide strategic and operational leadership across a portfolio of major water infrastructure projects valued at approximately £750 million over the next five years . This is a senior construction leadership opportunity within one of the UK water sector’s most significant capital delivery programmes. Operating at a level comparable with a Project Director, you will lead a large regional construction function, with Construction Managers and multiple site delivery teams reporting through to you. The programme covers an extensive geographical area across the east of England, so the role will combine strategic leadership with a visible presence across projects and delivery teams. This is not simply about overseeing individual schemes. You will shape construction strategy across the programme, develop the people responsible for delivery and ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently and to the required commercial and quality standards. What you’ll be responsible for: Providing leadership across a substantial portfolio of major and minor construction projects. Leading and developing Construction Managers and multidisciplinary site delivery teams. Setting and implementing construction strategy across the programme. Ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget and to the required quality standards. Maintaining appropriate construction resources across a large and evolving workload. Working closely with the Delivery Director, programme leadership, the client, alliance partners and supply-chain organisations. Driving consistency, collaboration and continuous improvement across multiple sites. Challenging existing methods and encouraging innovation through the delivery teams and supply chain. Maintaining strong commercial oversight, including cost control, forecasting and programme performance. Championing health, safety, wellbeing and environmental performance across every project. What we’re looking for: This role requires an established construction leader who is accustomed to operating across large-value, multi-project programmes. You are likely to bring: Significant senior construction leadership experience within water, utilities or another major infrastructure environment. Experience overseeing numerous projects, Construction Managers and site-based delivery teams. A strong understanding of construction methodology, engineering processes and project planning. A proven record of delivering complex capital projects safely and commercially. Experience managing substantial budgets, resources, contracts and supply-chain relationships. The credibility to work effectively with directors, clients, alliance partners and operational delivery teams. A leadership style that is visible, decisive, collaborative and capable of bringing people with you. Full UK driving licence and the flexibility to travel across the region. Experience within the regulated water sector would be particularly valuable.
