Senior EC&I Designer – Water Sector (Electrical, Control & Instrumentation / EICA Design Engineer)
Contract Type: Long-term Contract
IR35: Individual assessment – Inside or Outside IR35 considered
Location: Manchester (Hybrid Working)
Office Based: 2–3 days per week (typically Tuesday–Thursday)

Projects: Multiple UK Water Frameworks
This is a long-term contract role. An individual IR35 assessment will be undertaken to determine status, with both Inside and Outside IR35 considered.
Role Overview
An established engineering organisation delivering projects across UK water and wastewater frameworks is seeking an experienced Senior EC&I Designer to join its growing design team. This role focuses on the delivery of Electrical, Control & Instrumentation (EC&I / EICA) design solutions for regulated water infrastructure projects. You will report directly to the Project Lead Engineer and work closely with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver safe, compliant and high-quality designs. Flexible or partial remote working can be discussed.
Key Responsibilities
- Producing safe, practical and cost-effective EC&I / EICA designs in line with company procedures and UK standards
- Delivering detailed design outputs, including but not limited to:
- Single Line Diagrams (SLDs)
- P&IDs
- IO Schedules
- Cable Schedules
- Schematics
- Block Cable Diagrams (BCDs)
- Material Take-Offs (MTOs)
- Equipment and cable routing layouts
Qualifications
- ONC / OND / HNC / HND (or equivalent) in Electrical, Instrumentation or a related engineering discipline
Technical Experience & Skills
- Extensive experience delivering EC&I / EICA design within the water or regulated utilities sector
- Strong understanding of water and wastewater treatment assets
- Good knowledge of EC&I design practices and installation requirements
- Proficient in CAD (AutoCAD or similar)
- Experience with LV electrical design
- Working knowledge of UK legislation, standards and safety requirements
