Our client, a leading Tier 1 Design & Build contractor, is looking to appoint a Head of Construction to lead and inspire their delivery teams across a diverse and ambitious capital works programme. As Head of Construction, you will oversee a large and capable team of around 20 Construction Managers, 60 Site Managers and all operational site teams. You’ll play a pivotal role in driving construction excellence across a portfolio of projects valued at around £750 million over the next five years. Covering a wide geographical area across the East of England – from Hull to Southend – you’ll need to be comfortable travelling between sites and hold a full UK driving licence. You’ll have flexibility to work from one of three regional offices within your area: Peterborough, Lincoln or Norwich.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop high-performing construction delivery teams, promoting collaboration, safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee construction strategy, planning and delivery across multiple complex projects, ensuring completion safely, on time and within budget.
  • Drive innovation and modern construction methods through the supply chain, enhancing safety, quality, and efficiency.
  • Maintain strong relationships with stakeholders with the end client, external suppliers and joint venture partners.
  • Lead cost control, resource allocation, and performance management to maximise value across all programmes.
  • Champion health, safety, wellbeing and environmental excellence, embedding a zero-accident culture.
  • Promote inclusion, fairness, and respect across all teams and partners.

About You

We’re looking for an inspirational construction leader who can drive projects forward, lead strategy, and deliver exceptional results. You’ll bring:

  • Proven experience in large-scale construction management, ideally within the water, utilities, or infrastructure sectors. While experience in the water sector is advantageous, candidates with strong backgrounds in other utilities (e.g., gas, power) will also be considered.
  • A strong understanding of construction techniques, engineering processes, and project planning.
  • Proven ability to lead large multidisciplinary teams and deliver complex programmes.
  • Commercial awareness with a strong focus on health, safety and quality.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and leadership skills.
  • A forward-thinking, innovative mindset – open to new ideas and ways of working.

Why Apply?

This is a rare opportunity to join an established and leading Tier 1 contractor at the forefront of the UK water industry as we enter AMP8. As Head of Construction, you’ll shape and oversee the safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of major and minor capital projects — making a lasting difference to communities and the environment.

Only applicants with the right to work in the UK can be considered.
