We are looking for experienced Building Surveyors to join us across a number of our offices, including Bristol, Brighton, London and Kent!

Your Role – Senior Building Surveyor

You’ll support a wide range of clients and colleagues across a great variety of diverse projects, working on a hybrid basis from one of our vibrant offices. Autonomously lead and manage projects, working collaboratively with a varied team of construction professionals. Aid in the development of Assistant Building Surveyors, and benefit from the support of an experienced team – if you have an interest in a specialism, we would be pleased to support your ongoing development!

What does the role involve?

  • Manage projects of varied size and complexity.
  • Preparation of project design and specifications.
  • Advising the client on procurement/contacts and act as the contract administrator.
  • Preparation of tender documentation, tender reports and recommendations to the client.
  • Undertaking day to day duties of either the Contractor Administrator or Employers Agent.
  • Interpreting drawings and designs produced by others and advise upon the technical detail and analyse the design in accordance with the technical brief, statutory requirements, and instructions of the client.
  • Act as lead designer.
  • Lead on and undertake condition surveys and liaise with other specialists.
  • Carry out or manage others undertaking measured surveys of existing buildings or sites.
  • Undertake site inspections.
  • Oversee professional matters including but not limited to Party Wall Matters, Acquisition and Condition Surveys and Dilapidations.
  • Keep Associate Directors fully informed of progress.
  • Receive Client instructions and agree fee proposals for various projects and professional surveying instructions.
  • Maintaining technical working understanding of Buildings, construction, management, and operations, including their defects, and assist with the technical knowledge of other colleagues.
  • Advising and reporting on building defects, maintenance, and repairs, in a concise and accurate manner to clients who may not have technical knowledge.
  • Understand the statutory approvals processes, including making and managing the Planning, Listed Building Consent and Building Control Approval, process successfully and advising clients where necessary.
  • Working within the working process of RIBA Plan of Works and overseeing multi-disciplinary project teams.
  • Undertake the training and development of others.
  • Always take personal responsibility for the health and safety of yourself and others by working within the Health and Safety policy and procedures.
  • Endeavour to improve our social and environmental impact
  • Any other duties as reasonably required.

Requirements

What skills might you need?

  • Ideally Chartered accreditation or working towards chartered status; we can support you in gaining chartership
  • Longstanding relevant experience working within the construction industry in a similar discipline.
  • Excellent experience based technical/project knowledge.
  • Support junior members of the team with mentoring and development.
  • Ability to manage fees and assist with fee bids.
  • Ability to work on own initiative to drive to generate new business.
  • Understanding of the account management process.
  • Ability to analyse projects and report performance to line manager.
  • Excellent knowledge of internal systems and processes in order to advise and guide others.
  • Excellent knowledge of CDM and construction Health & Safety.
