This one's for you if you're based in the UK and ready for a change. We know how this goes. You're scrolling LinkedIn somewhere between a rainy Piccadilly and another grey Manchester afternoon, and something makes you stop. Maybe you've been thinking about Australia for a while. Maybe you've been dreaming of swapping your morning commute for a sunrise swim. Either way, you're not alone. A few people on the team made exactly this move. They saw a job ad, had a conversation, and within a few weeks they were landing in Sydney. People from all over Europe who decided the timing felt right, and the business has gotten pretty good at making that transition as smooth as possible.
We're partnering with an independent digital consultancy of around 50 specialists based in Sydney. They work across SEO, paid media, content, analytics and digital strategy for a mix of Australian and North American clients, from global household names to ambitious scale-ups. SEO is genuinely central to what they do, not an afterthought.
The Role
As SEO Director, you'll lead and grow a well-established SEO practice. This is a senior, strategic role, not a heads-down execution job. The team is technically strong and well-established. What they need now is someone who can bring strategic direction, earn client trust at a senior level, and help the team grow into sharper, more confident practitioners. You'll lead key client relationships, contribute to pitches and new business, guide three direct reports, and help shape how the business approaches an evolving search landscape, including GEO, AEO and AI visibility across ChatGPT, Gemini and beyond.
In short: guide the team, earn client trust, shape the future of SEO at a consultancy where SEO actually has a seat at the table.
What You'll Do
- Lead senior client relationships: QBRs, escalations, strategic planning sessions
- Provide direction across technical, content and authority-led SEO programmes
- Support pitches and new business opportunities
- Mentor and develop three direct reports
- Collaborate with paid media, analytics, content and outreach teams on integrated client engagements
- Help build structured, scalable approaches to AI and multi-engine search
What You'll Bring
- Strong, well-rounded SEO experience across technical, content and strategic work
- A track record of leading teams and developing people, you understand that half the job is helping others do better work
- Confidence in senior client conversations, including the uncomfortable ones
- Commercial instincts, you translate search into business language
- Genuine curiosity about where search is heading (GEO, AEO, LLM-led discovery)
On Visas and Relocation
You are eligible to apply for a Working Holiday Visa and can make the move to Sydney in a reasonable timeframe. After a successful probation period, the company will provide a sponsorship visa.
Why This Role
SEO has a real voice here. Not fighting for budget or visibility against a bigger media operation. SEO is what this business was built on. The culture is the real thing. Everyone talks about culture. Here it actually shows up in how people treat each other, how long they stay, and what they say when you ask them why. The work is genuinely interesting. Complex clients, real briefs, technical problems worth solving. Flexibility that works. Two days in the office, three from home. A diverse, international team. Chances are, you'll have more in common with your new colleagues than you think.
