This is a permanent opportunity with a well-backed contractor delivering technically challenging schemes involving bulk earthworks, remediation, contaminated land, soil stabilisation and associated civil engineering works.

The role will suit a commercially aware and operationally strong Contracts Manager who is confident managing multiple live sites, leading delivery teams and working closely with clients, consultants, subcontractors and senior management.

The Role

As Contracts Manager, you will take cradle-to-grave responsibility for the successful delivery of multiple earthworks and remediation projects, from pre-start planning through to completion and handover. You will manage site teams, plant, subcontractors, suppliers, logistics, programme, commercial performance and client relationships, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to the required technical and quality standards. The role will also involve supporting work-winning activity, including tender input, methodology, programming, resourcing, risk review and commercial considerations.

Project Types

The contractor delivers a range of technically focused bulk earthworks, remediation and civil engineering projects. This can include contaminated land remediation, soil stabilisation, material management, cut and fill operations, enabling works and wider civils packages. Projects are delivered from a Yorkshire base, with regular travel across England, including Yorkshire, East to West regions and parts of the Northern Midlands.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple bulk earthworks, remediation and civil engineering projects from pre-start through to completion and handover.
  • Lead project planning, resourcing, logistics, sequencing, progress reporting and issue resolution.
  • Take ownership of budgets, cost control, change management, forecasting and commercial reporting.
  • Work confidently with NEC and/or JCT contracts, including variations, compensation events and contractual processes.
  • Coordinate in-house teams, plant operators, subcontractors and suppliers across several live sites.
  • Ensure works are delivered safely, to specification, on programme and in line with company standards.
  • Oversee remediation, contaminated land, soil stabilisation, material movements, classification, testing, validation and project documentation.
  • Manage permits, RAMS, temporary works requirements, technical assurance and wider project governance.
  • Act as the main client-facing contact, chair or attend progress meetings and build strong long-term client relationships.
  • Support tendering and pre-construction activity, including methodology, programming, resourcing, risk and work-winning input.

Candidate Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Contracts Manager, or similar senior operational role, within bulk earthworks, remediation or civil engineering.
  • Strong commercial awareness with experience managing budgets, subcontractors, suppliers and contractual processes.
  • Working knowledge of NEC and/or JCT forms of contract.
  • Experience overseeing technically challenging earthworks, remediation, contaminated land, soil stabilisation or material management projects would be highly beneficial.
  • Confident leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • SMSTS, CSCS and full UK driving licence are required.
  • HNC, HND, degree or equivalent construction / civil engineering qualification would be advantageous.
  • Experience supporting tenders, pre-construction planning or work-winning activity would also be beneficial.

The Opportunity

This is a strong long-term opportunity for an experienced Contracts Manager seeking a senior role with autonomy, responsibility and genuine scope to influence project delivery and future growth. You will be joining a growing contractor with a healthy pipeline of earthworks and remediation projects, offering the chance to take ownership of multiple live schemes while supporting senior leadership on operational delivery and work-winning. The role would suit someone who enjoys being close to the work, understands the realities of site delivery and can balance safety, programme, quality, commercial performance and client relationships effectively.

Package

The package is negotiable depending on experience and can be tailored for the right individual. Benefits include a competitive salary, company vehicle or car allowance, pension scheme, professional membership support where applicable and long-term progression within a growing business.
