Fulcrum Recruitment is working with a well-established civil engineering main contractor that is looking to appoint an experienced General Foreman to support the delivery of civil engineering schemes across Yorkshire. This is a permanent opportunity with a respected principal contractor delivering a varied range of design-and-build infrastructure and public realm projects. The company operates across the Yorkshire region, offering long-term regional work and no regular requirement to lodge away.

The Role

As General Foreman, you will take day-to-day responsibility for site operations, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently, on programme and to the required quality standards. You will supervise direct labour, subcontractors, plant and materials while supporting the wider site team with planning, coordination, quality control, site records and health and safety compliance. This role would suit an experienced General Foreman who is hands-on, organised, proactive and able to set high standards across site delivery, safety, quality and productivity.

Project Types

The contractor delivers a broad range of general civil engineering and infrastructure schemes, including new highway works, road adaptations, cycle paths, tow paths, footpaths, bridges, retaining walls, drainage, flood alleviation, public realm and streetscape improvements. Projects are delivered across Yorkshire, with current and secured work including areas such as Huddersfield, Brighouse, Elland, Bradford, Halifax, Barnsley, Sheffield, Kirklees, Scunthorpe, Hull and Rotherham.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead daily site operations, setting high standards for health, safety, quality, productivity and site presentation.
  • Supervise direct labour, subcontractors, plant, materials and site resources to ensure works are delivered efficiently.
  • Deliver site inductions, toolbox talks, RAMS briefings and ensure safe systems of work are followed.
  • Manage permits, temporary works controls, site records, training registers, QA documentation and inspection records.
  • Support programme delivery, look-ahead planning, sequencing, resource forecasting and progress reporting.
  • Maintain accurate daily records covering labour, plant, materials, progress, production and site activities.
  • Support the commercial team with measurements, subcontract works, cost awareness, CVR information and monthly reporting.
  • Liaise professionally with clients, designers, suppliers, subcontractors, third parties and internal teams while promoting a positive site culture.

Candidate Requirements

  • Proven experience as a General Foreman delivering civil engineering schemes for a contractor.
  • Strong background in highways, drainage, road construction, structures, public realm, footpaths, cycleways or similar civils works.
  • Good understanding of temporary works, deep excavations, RAMS, QA, site records, programme delivery and health and safety procedures.
  • SMSTS or SSSTS, CSCS and a full UK driving licence are required.
  • Confined Space, NRSWA / Street Works and First Aid at Work would be advantageous.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and site reporting or digital QA systems.
  • Professional, organised and proactive approach, with strong communication skills and the ability to lead site teams effectively.
