Fulcrum Recruitment is working with a well-established regional civil engineering contractor that is looking to appoint an experienced General Foreman to support the delivery of a strong pipeline of civil engineering projects across the North East and North Yorkshire. This is a long-term opportunity with a respected main contractor delivering a varied range of design-and-build infrastructure and public realm schemes. The company operates across the region, with current and upcoming projects covering areas such as South Durham, Teesside, North Yorkshire and the wider North East. The work is regional, meaning no regular lodging away and the opportunity to be home every night.
The Role
As General Foreman, you will take day-to-day responsibility for site operations, ensuring work is delivered safely, efficiently and to the required standard. You will supervise direct labour and subcontractors, coordinate plant and materials, maintain site records, support short-term planning and work closely with Site Agents, Project Managers and the wider delivery team. This role would suit an experienced General Foreman who takes pride in site standards, communicates well with site teams and clients, and can keep works moving without compromising safety or quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead day-to-day site operations across civil engineering projects
- Supervise direct labour, subcontractors, plant and materials
- Ensure works are delivered safely, on programme and to specification
- Deliver site inductions, toolbox talks and RAMS briefings
- Maintain high standards of health, safety, quality and housekeeping
- Support short-term planning, lookaheads and programme updates
- Keep accurate daily records, including labour, plant, progress and materials
- Coordinate deliveries and ensure materials are checked and recorded
- Support QA, inspections, ITPs and handover documentation
- Assist with resource planning and identify site requirements early
- Liaise professionally with clients, subcontractors, suppliers and internal teams
- Support the Site Agent / Project Manager with progress, cost awareness and site delivery
Candidate Requirements
- Proven experience as a General Foreman within civil engineering
- Background delivering schemes such as highways, drainage, roads, public realm, structures, footpaths, cycleways or similar civils works
- Strong understanding of site safety, sequencing, temporary works and quality standards
- SMSTS or SSSTS
- CSCS card
- Full UK driving licence
- Good communication and organisational skills
- Comfortable working with site records, digital QA systems and basic IT
- First Aid, NRSWA and Confined Space would be advantageous but are not essential
