Role Overview: The Business Development Manager is a developmental, market-facing role within Fujitsu’s Defence & National Security business. The role supports the Business Development Director across multiple campaigns, enabling effective customer engagement, opportunity progression and consistent ways of working across the team. This position is designed for individuals who are motivated to build a career in business development, providing exposure to live campaigns, customer engagement and the pre-contract sales lifecycle. Operating as a deployable resource across several Directors, the role focuses on facilitating engagements, developing and managing campaign and opportunity documentation and ensuring consistency, quality and pace across campaign activity. • Assist with preparation and follow-up for customer and partner engagements, including briefings, agendas, actions and stakeholder mapping.
  • Draft, coordinate and manage campaign and opportunity documentation, including campaign plans, opportunity summaries and internal briefing packs.
  • Capture insight from customer and partner engagements and feed this into campaign, opportunity and pipeline activity.
  • Support opportunity progression across the pre-contract lifecycle, ensuring information is clear, consistent and well-structured.
  • Maintain campaign and opportunity information to a high standard, supporting pipeline management, governance and review activity.
  • Promote consistency in BD processes, tools and ways of working across the team.
  • Contribute to partner and teaming activity by coordinating inputs and supporting engagement activity.
  • Act as a flexible, deployable team resource, adjusting focus across campaigns and priorities as required.

Experience & Skills:

  • Relevant professional experience: Typically 3–5 years’ experience in a role such as business development, consulting, delivery, project management or a comparable customer-facing or commercial support role, within a complex or regulated environment.
  • Interest in Defence & National Security: A strong interest in Defence & National Security markets and a clear motivation to build a career in business development within this domain.
  • Campaign and opportunity support: Experience supporting complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives or pursuits, with exposure to opportunity shaping, customer engagement or pre-contract activity.
  • Communication and documentation skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, structured, high-quality documentation and briefing materials for a range of stakeholders.
  • Organisation and delivery discipline: Well-organised and proactive, able to manage multiple workstreams, prioritise effectively and maintain momentum across parallel activities.
  • Collaborative ways of working: Comfortable working as part of a team, supporting senior colleagues, and collaborating across functions to achieve shared objectives.
  • Commercial awareness: Curiosity and awareness of customer challenges, market dynamics and commercial drivers, with an interest in how opportunities are shaped and progressed.

Measures of Success (First 12-18 Months):

  • Effective campaign and opportunity support: Consistently providing high-quality support across multiple campaigns, enabling BD Directors to progress engagements and opportunities efficiently.
  • Quality and consistency of outputs: Production of clear, well-structured and timely campaign and opportunity documentation that supports engagement, governance and bid readiness.
  • Positive team feedback: Strong feedback from BD Director, bid teams and delivery colleagues on reliability, quality of contribution and collaborative working.
  • Improved process discipline and visibility: Demonstrable improvement in the consistency, accuracy and completeness of campaign and opportunity information across the Business Development team.
  • Development of BD capability: Clear progression in understanding Defence & National Security markets, opportunity shaping and campaign working, with readiness to take on increased responsibility over time.
