As a Staff Laboratory Technician, you’ll be part of a friendly, collaborative team working hands-on with soil and rock samples to produce accurate, reliable results that help shape the world around us.
This is an on-site role in our modern laboratory, where you’ll work closely with technicians, engineers, and team leaders. You’ll report to a Team Leader within your testing area and contribute to a culture of safety, quality, and operational excellence. Your Role and Responsibilities:
- Perform a variety of laboratory tests on soil and rock samples, following client specifications and industry standards.
- Accurately record and calculate test data using spreadsheets and data logging systems.
- Ensure all testing is carried out to the highest safety and quality standards.
- Collaborate with team leaders and quality engineers to ensure timely and compliant data delivery.
- Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment, keeping accurate records of checks and servicing.
- Support the lab’s accreditation to ISO 17025 by upholding rigorous quality procedures.
- Contribute to a positive QHSSE (Quality, Health, Safety, Security, and Environment) culture through active participation and awareness.
What You’ll Need to Thrive in This Role:
- 5+ GCSEs (or equivalent), ideally with English, Maths, and Science.
- Strong numeracy and literacy skills, with attention to detail in data handling and documentation.
- Basic IT skills, including confidence using Excel and digital data systems.
- A proactive, safety-conscious mindset and willingness to learn new testing techniques.
- Previous laboratory experience is desirable but not essential — full training will be provided.
- Full UK Working Rights without the need for sponsorship. Please note: due to UK Visas and Immigration requirements, this role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
