As a Staff Laboratory Engineer, you’ll play a vital role in supporting cutting-edge projects by performing essential soil and rock testing that informs major infrastructure developments across the globe. Based in our dynamic Wallingford laboratory, you’ll work alongside a friendly and confident team of technicians and engineers, contributing to meaningful work that makes a real-world impact.
This is a full-time, on-site role working 37.5 hours per week, typically Monday to Friday. You’ll report to the Team Leader within your testing area and collaborate closely with quality engineers, data processors, and technical leads. Occasional offshore opportunities may arise, adding variety and excitement to your career journey.
Your Role and Responsibilities
- Perform all levels of geotechnical testing on soil and rock samples to the highest standards.
- Ensure high-quality data delivery by accurately recording and calculating test results using spreadsheets and digital tools.
- Maintain calibration records and ensure equipment is functioning optimally for precise testing outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with team leaders to ensure timely completion of testing projects and raise concerns proactively.
- Assist in processing and reviewing test data before client submission.
- Uphold Fugro’s commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence.
- Support the lab’s ISO 17025 accreditation by maintaining rigorous quality standards.
- Contribute to innovation by helping develop new testing methods and participating in R&D initiatives.
What You’ll Need to Thrive in This Role
- A good general education including 5+ GCSEs (or equivalent), with English, Maths, and Science.
- Strong numeracy and literacy skills, with proficiency in Excel and other data tools.
- A passion for learning and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Previous experience in a laboratory environment is desirable but not essential.
