Fugro is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Field and Core Logging Engineer to join the team based in Wallingford, Oxfordshire. This is an exceptional opportunity to work as part of a global team on site characterisation and engineering projects, performing offshore site investigations, core logging and testing as well as preparing data for offshore and onshore deliverables and factual reports. In addition, you will have the opportunity to travel internationally and work offshore for several weeks a year to perform in situ and offshore laboratory testing as well as collect, process and analyse soil and/or rock samples. Acting as lead engineer you will supervise a small team of engineers on offshore site investigations and in the core logging facility.

Who you’ll be working with:

This role will require you to work in the core logging facilities and offshore with other engineers. You will also work alongside other staff from various departments (e.g. Engineering & Reporting, project managers, quality, health and safety, commercial etc.).

Here’s what a typical day in the core logging facility would be like:

  • Logging of soil and rock samples to relevant standard (e.g. BS5930, Eurocode 7, ISO, etc.);
  • Assigning laboratory tests and managing laboratory test programmes;
  • Supervise a team of logging engineers, ensuring accurate data is recorded and project requirements are met;
  • Accurate and complete recording of data into spreadsheets and in-house programs (e.g. GeODin and GERRIT etc.);
  • QA/QC collected data and results;
  • Assist/perform training of team members;
  • Produce or assist in the production of reports.

Here’s what a typical day offshore would be like:

  • Participate in and contribute to pre-shift toolbox talks and health and safety meetings;
  • Assist offshore project crew such as drillers and tool operators in carrying out a geotechnical site investigation scope of work;
  • Process samples in the vessel laboratory including geotechnical logging, sub-sampling, testing, and storing of soil and rock material;
  • Conduct and process the data from a wide range of offshore scientific tests, including piezo and seismic cone penetration testing, in situ vanes and T-bars;
  • Produce client deliverables such as borehole logs and the project field report.

Who we’re looking for:

Essential

  • A degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline, or equivalent;
  • Computer literate, capable of using spreadsheets and plotting software;
  • Capable of generating a safe and quality-based culture within the offshore and onshore team;
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • A good team player and able to form working relationships with clients and colleagues at all levels.
  • Relevant experience of offshore and onshore geotechnical operations and logging.
