As an Ocean Modeller you will join a dynamic team that thrives on technical curiosity and practical impact. You will work with advanced numerical models to support studies and operational forecasts while contributing to projects that help clients understand and manage the oceans they depend on. Your work will span hydrodynamic modelling, data interpretation and technical reporting along with hands-on involvement in cloud-based HPC systems. Responsibilities
- Support team objectives, providing assistance to the Team Leader to help deliver client-focused work and maintain delivery excellence across the modelling team.
- Train and support colleagues, offering guidance to junior team members when needed and contributing to developing skills within the group.
- Act as technical focal point, serving as a go-to person for specific modelling or technical areas within the team.
- Run numerical models, implementing and operating hydrodynamic models in hindcast or forecast mode for a range of offshore and coastal applications.
- Produce technical reports, writing clear, accurate reports that meet Fugro standards and communicate modelling results effectively.
- Interpret metocean outputs, analysing and interpreting model results during and after studies to support client decisions.
- Manage desk studies, acting as project manager for desktop studies including scheduling, resource planning and client communication with support from senior staff.
- Monitor AWS-based HPC systems, assisting in monitoring and optimising the team’s cloud-based HPC infrastructure including EC2 instances, S3 storage and networking.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in oceanography or a related field (PhD preferred).
- Must have hydrodynamic modelling experience, working with models such as, but not limited to, D3D, HYCOM or ROMS.
- Model review capability, ability to review model setups and outputs from junior colleagues.
- Experience with Linux and MATLAB (Python desirable).
- Familiarity with managing HPC resources, Slurm, with cloud-based systems desirable.
- Experience in swiftly addressing operational forecast modelling related issues.
- Proven success working within a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong written and spoken English.
- Understanding of industry needs and experience supporting client-focused work.
