Fuel Recruitment is partnering with a leading telecommunications and utilities organisation supporting a critical regional network across the North West and Wales. We are seeking a Field Engineer to play a key role in the delivery, maintenance, and upgrade of a large-scale operational telecoms network. This is a hands-on, field-based role offering exposure to complex technologies, live environments, and nationally significant infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver project and maintenance activities safely, compliantly, and on schedule across a live telecoms network
  • Support Project and Senior Project Managers with scoping, planning, and execution
  • Install, configure, commission, and maintain telecoms and network infrastructure
  • Diagnose, test, and resolve faults across IP, fibre, and RF systems
  • Conduct site surveys and produce technical documentation and handover packs
  • Adhere to Health & Safety, RAMS, and site compliance standards at all times

Key Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in a field-based telecoms or network engineering role
  • Strong IP networking knowledge (LAN/WAN, routing, switching, MPLS/MPLS-TP – CCNA level or equivalent)
  • Hands-on experience with routers, switches, and firewalls (Cisco ASR/ISR desirable)
  • Experience working in live/operational environments (e.g. data centres, substations)
  • Familiarity with PDH/SDH and Nokia platforms (SAR-H, NMFP)
  • Experience with industry-standard testing tools: BERT, RF sweeps, PIM, TDR, OTDR, OSCAR
  • Full UK driving licence
  • SPEN authorisations (highly desirable)

  • Clear communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • High standard of technical documentation and attention to detail
  • Competent with IT systems (Microsoft Office & mobile applications)
  • Strong safety-first mindset with commercial awareness
  • Interest in emerging technologies and continuous learning
  • Unified Communications experience (nice to have)
