Hi, I run an e-commerce platform for florists in the UK, and we are looking for an experienced, remote backend PHP developer to join our team of 4 developers. The developer can be based outside the UK, but ideally should be available for at least part of the UK working day, especially between 1pm and 5pm UK GMT:0 time.
Key skills needed:
- Strong Core PHP experience, ideally PHP 8+
- Excellent MySQL knowledge, including queries, joins, indexes, schema changes, and debugging data issues
- Experience working on e-commerce platforms, including orders, products, checkout, payments etc
- Experience with APIs including Stripe, Cloudflare, Google Maps, Mandrill
- Cron jobs, Docker, Nginx, PHP-FPM, Jira, Git
- Comfortable working with existing and legacy codebases
- Performance optimisation
- Security best practices
- Server management, especially LAMP stack environments
The role:
- Fix bugs and improve existing functionality
- Plan and create new features based on customer tickets
- Improve database reliability and performance
- Maintain third-party APIs
- Communicate clearly, estimate honestly, and document important changes
Ideal person:

Contract and salary:
- Long-term role
- Work hours: 3-7 hours per day, Monday to Friday
- Working window: anytime between 10am and 6pm UK time
- Hourly rate: £14-£20 / $18-$27 depending on expertise
- Monthly salary: approximately £600-£2,000 / $800-$2,700 depending on hours and experience
- Salary and hours are negotiable
