FSW Coatings Ltd. (the manufacturing arm of Fleetwood Paints) is now seeking applications from individuals interested in starting or developing a career in the paint and coatings industry. This opportunity is ideal for candidates with a strong interest in science or coatings, including those who may already have some laboratory, practical, or science-related experience, or those looking to transition into the industry.

This role may include potential career development opportunities, with the possibility for the right candidate to progress after approximately one year onto an apprenticeship programme leading to Level 6 and Level 7 Laboratory Technician qualifications.

About the Role

This role supports new product development, product testing, and process improvement across the business. You will gain valuable hands-on experience working within a busy R&D laboratory team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the formulation and testing of paint and coating products
  • Carry out laboratory testing using recognised industry methods
  • Support improvements to existing products to enhance quality and cost efficiency
  • Work with raw materials and assist in evaluating their performance
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation
  • Assist in troubleshooting technical and production issues
  • Ensure laboratory equipment is maintained and calibrated
  • Follow all company quality standards, procedures, and safety requirements
  • Take on additional responsibilities in line with your training and development

What We’re Looking For

  • A strong interest in science, coatings, or manufacturing
  • Willingness to learn and develop within a laboratory environment
  • Good attention to detail and problem-solving ability
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Basic computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office)
  • Good colour vision is important for this role

Education & Experience

  • Background in science (e.g. Leaving Certificate subjects, further education, or practical/lab experience) is beneficial
  • Previous laboratory or industry-related experience is an advantage but not essential
  • An interest in Chemistry or coatings would be particularly useful
