What you'll do
- Design and implement comprehensive security architectures that align with organizational goals and compliance requirements.
- Conduct thorough risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities in existing systems and recommend appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Collaborate with IT and development teams to integrate security best practices into the software development lifecycle.
- Develop and maintain security policies, standards, and procedures to ensure compliance with industry regulations and best practices.
- Lead security architecture reviews and provide guidance on security-related decisions and projects.
- Stay current with emerging security threats and technologies, and proactively recommend enhancements to security measures.
- Conduct security awareness training for employees to foster a culture of security within the organization.
- Participate in incident response planning and execution, ensuring that security incidents are managed effectively and lessons learned are documented.
- Work closely with stakeholders to ensure that security considerations are included in business decisions and project planning.
- Evaluate third-party vendors and partners for security compliance and risk management.
- Prepare and present security architecture proposals and reports to senior management and stakeholders.
- Mentor junior security professionals and provide guidance on best practices in security architecture.
Requirements
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in cyber security, with a focus on security architecture and design.
- Proven experience in risk assessment and management, as well as vulnerability management.
- Strong knowledge of security frameworks and standards such as NIST, ISO 27001, and CIS Controls.
- Proficiency in security technologies, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and encryption protocols.
- Experience with cloud security architecture and understanding of cloud service models (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS).
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements such as GDPR, PCI DSS, and HIPAA.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically about security issues.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex security concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or CCSP are highly desirable.

- Experience with DevSecOps practices and tools.
- Knowledge of secure coding practices and application security testing.
- Familiarity with threat modeling techniques and tools.
- Experience in incident response and digital forensics.
- Understanding of network security protocols and architectures.
Skills & tools
- Proficient in security assessment tools such as Nessus, Qualys, or similar.
- Familiarity with SIEM solutions and security monitoring tools.
- Experience with scripting languages (Python, PowerShell) for automation of security tasks.
- Knowledge of identity and access management solutions.
- Understanding of endpoint protection technologies and strategies.
Practical notes
- This position is based in either Glasgow or Reading, Berkshire, and may require occasional travel to client sites.
- The role may involve working outside of standard business hours in response to security incidents or during critical project phases.
