About the role Fsp is seeking an experienced Senior Security Consultant to join our dynamic team in either Glasgow or Reading, Berkshire. This full-time position is designed for individuals who are passionate about cybersecurity and have a proven track record in security consulting. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in enhancing our clients' security posture by providing expert guidance and implementing robust security solutions tailored to their unique needs.

What you’ll do

  • Collaborate with clients to assess their current security frameworks and identify vulnerabilities within their systems and processes.
  • Develop comprehensive security strategies that align with industry best practices and regulatory requirements, ensuring clients meet compliance standards.
  • Conduct thorough risk assessments and security audits to evaluate the effectiveness of existing security measures and recommend improvements.
  • Lead security awareness training sessions for client staff to foster a culture of security consciousness and preparedness.
  • Design and implement security solutions, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and encryption technologies, to protect sensitive data.
  • Stay abreast of the latest cybersecurity threats and trends, providing clients with proactive recommendations to mitigate risks.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including IT, legal, and compliance, to ensure a holistic approach to security.
  • Prepare detailed reports and presentations for clients, summarizing findings, recommendations, and action plans.
  • Assist in incident response planning and execution, ensuring clients are prepared to handle security breaches effectively.
  • Mentor junior security consultants, sharing knowledge and best practices to enhance team capabilities.
  • Participate in business development efforts, contributing to proposals and presentations to attract new clients.
  • Engage in continuous professional development to maintain and enhance your expertise in the ever-evolving field of cybersecurity.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in security consulting or a related field, with a strong understanding of cybersecurity principles and practices.
  • Proven experience conducting risk assessments and security audits, with the ability to analyze complex security environments.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and frameworks such as ISO 27001, NIST, and GDPR.
  • Strong technical skills in security technologies, including firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, and endpoint protection solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey complex security concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or CEH are highly desirable.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically under pressure.

Nice to have

  • Experience with cloud security solutions and frameworks, particularly in AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud environments.
  • Familiarity with DevSecOps practices and tools, integrating security into the software development lifecycle.
  • Knowledge of penetration testing methodologies and tools, with the ability to conduct assessments and provide actionable insights.

Skills & tools

  • Proficient in security assessment tools such as Nessus, Qualys, or similar platforms.
  • Familiarity with SIEM solutions and security monitoring tools.
  • Strong understanding of network protocols and architectures, including TCP/IP, DNS, and VPN technologies.
  • Experience with scripting languages (Python, Bash, etc.) for automation and security tool integration.

Practical notes

  • This position may require occasional travel to client sites, depending on project needs.
  • The successful candidate will be expected to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment while also being able to work independently.
