We are supporting a Leeds-based organisation in their search for an experienced Sheet Metal Works Manager to lead day-to-day operations within their fabrication workshop. This role is ideal for a hands-on leader with strong technical knowledge of sheet metal processes, production planning, and team management.
The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing workflow, ensuring high-quality output, managing resources, and driving operational efficiency within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities- Operational & Production Management
- Oversee daily operations of the sheet metal workshop, ensuring production targets and deadlines are met.
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate workloads in line with customer requirements and project timelines.
- Monitor production processes to maintain consistent quality and identify improvement opportunities.
- Implement and maintain lean manufacturing practices to optimise workflow and minimise waste.
- Team Leadership
- Manage, train, and mentor a team of sheet metal fabricators, welders, and workshop staff.
- Conduct performance reviews, set objectives, and support skills development.
- Maintain a positive and safe working culture and ensure strong communication across the team.
- Quality & Compliance
- Ensure all fabrication work adheres to company standards, industry regulations, and client specifications.
- Oversee quality control checks and troubleshoot technical issues as they arise.
- Maintain full compliance with health & safety legislation, including risk assessments and safety protocols.
- Materials & Resource Management
- Manage stock levels of sheet metal, consumables, and tooling.
- Liaise with suppliers and coordinate procurement to ensure uninterrupted production.
- Oversee maintenance of machinery, equipment, and workshop facilities.
- Client & Stakeholder Coordination
- Work closely with design, engineering, and project management teams to deliver projects efficiently.
- Support client communication on technical issues, progress updates, and specification clarification.
- Proven experience in sheet metal fabrication environments—ideally in a supervisory or management role.
- Strong understanding of sheet metal processes including cutting, folding, welding, CNC punching/laser cutting, and finishing.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and production plans.
- Good knowledge of health & safety and quality standards within manufacturing.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive, hands-on approach.
- NVQ / BTEC / City & Guilds in Fabrication, Welding, Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline.
- IOSH or NEBOSH certification (advantageous).
- Experience with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement methodologies.
