We are seeking a highly organised, commercially aware, and proactive Transport Planner & Operations Administrator to join our growing team. This is a fast-paced and demanding role requiring strong initiative, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage transport operations efficiently while supporting the wider business with key administrative duties.
The successful candidate will play a key role in coordinating vehicle movements, managing collections and deliveries, supporting operational planning, and ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of transport and company administration functions. We specialise in metal and waste recycling management across London and the South East and require an individual who can adapt quickly to changing operational demands while maintaining a high standard of professionalism, organisation, and attention to detail.
This role is ideal for someone with strong commercial awareness who understands the importance of efficiency, cost control, customer service, and operational performance within a transport and logistics environment.
Key Responsibilities- Plan and coordinate daily transport schedules and vehicle movements
- Manage collections, deliveries, and route planning to maximise operational efficiency
- Liaise with drivers, clients, suppliers, and third-party logistics providers
- Monitor transport operations in real time and respond proactively to operational issues
- Ensure all jobs are completed within agreed deadlines and service levels
- Support the business with general company administration and operational coordination
- Maintain accurate transport, compliance, and operational records
- Analyse transport and operational data to identify improvements and cost-saving opportunities
- Assist with customer account management and maintain strong client relationships
- Communicate effectively across all departments to support business operations
- Handle incoming calls and emails professionally and efficiently
- Support management with reporting, planning, and operational tasks
- Ensure compliance with company procedures and transport regulations
- Work proactively using initiative to resolve problems and improve operational performance
- Support the wider team with additional operational duties where required
- Previous experience within transport planning, logistics, operations administration, or a similar role preferred
- Strong organisational and multitasking abilities
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and use initiative in a fast-paced environment
- Commercial awareness with an understanding of operational efficiency and cost management
- Confident using transport management systems, Weightsoft, and Microsoft Office
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records
- Professional telephone manner and customer service skills
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and adapt to changing priorities
- Positive, reliable, and flexible approach to work
- Prior experience within recycling, waste management, transport, or logistics environments would be advantageous but is not essential
- Possession of a CPC qualification and/or HGV licence would be highly advantageous, although not essential
