A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an ambitious Senior Legal Counsel to join a highly regarded financial services organisation based in Edinburgh. This role would suit a commercially minded solicitor with 6 years' PQE + who is looking for genuine long-term career progression, with a clear pathway to stepping into a more senior leadership position over the coming years.

Working closely with a senior executive and operating within a small, high-impact team, you will enjoy broad exposure across legal, governance and strategic business matters, whilst becoming a trusted adviser to stakeholders at all levels.

The role:

  • Provide pragmatic, commercially focused legal advice across a broad range of business matters.
  • Draft, review and negotiate commercial contracts, supplier agreements, client and product documentation.
  • Support strategic initiatives, business change projects and new product development.
  • Identify and manage legal and regulatory risk.
  • Support and deputise for a senior legal leader when required.
  • Play an active role in company secretarial and corporate governance activities, including supporting Board and committee meetings.
  • Manage shareholder matters and external legal advisers.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of the legal function, including the adoption of AI and new technologies.

What we're looking for:

  • Qualified solicitor (Scotland or England & Wales) with 6–9+ years' PQE.
  • Strong background in either Corporate law OR Commercial Contracts.
  • Experience gained in private practice, in-house, or a combination of both.
  • Exposure to a regulated environment is advantageous, particularly financial services, banking or wealth management.
  • Some company secretarial or corporate governance experience would be highly beneficial.
  • Strong communication skills with the gravitas to engage confidently with senior stakeholders, executives and Board members.
  • A proactive individual who enjoys variety and thrives in a collaborative environment.
