Job Purpose

To carry out thorough inspections and assessments of fire doors across client sites in accordance with current fire safety regulations (e.g., BS 8214, Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, Building Safety Act 2022). The role ensures that all fire doors meet the required standards for integrity, operation, and compliance, contributing to the overall fire strategy and occupant safety of the building.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct scheduled and ad hoc inspections of fire doors in residential, commercial, or public buildings.
  • Assess the condition, functionality, and compliance of fire door components including door leaves, frames, hinges, closers, vision panels, seals, signage, and gaps.
  • Complete detailed inspection reports using digital or paper-based checklists in accordance with company and legislative standards.
  • Identify non-compliant elements and provide recommendations for remedial actions or repairs.
  • Liaise with facilities, maintenance teams, or contractors regarding follow-up works and retesting.
  • Maintain accurate inspection records to support audits and compliance documentation.
  • Stay up to date with changes in legislation, standards, and best practice.
  • Participate in toolbox talks, risk assessments, and relevant training.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement in fire door inspection processes and reporting tools.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Qualified Fire Door Inspector (e.g., FDIS, BRE, BM TRADA Q-Mark, or equivalent).
  • Proven experience in fire door inspection and reporting.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable fire safety regulations (e.g., BS 8214, BS 9999, RRFSO 2005).
  • Ability to identify faults or non-compliances accurately and provide technical commentary.
  • Experience using digital inspection software or asset management tools.

Skills & Competencies

  • Excellent attention to detail and methodical working style.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage your own time and workload.
  • Physically able to inspect doors across multi-storey buildings (including ladders, reaching high door furniture, etc.).
  • Customer-focused and professional approach when working on occupied premises.
  • Valid UK driving licence (if travel between sites is required).

Desirable

  • Knowledge of passive fire protection and wider fire safety systems.
  • Experience working within housing associations, student accommodation, or large multi-occupancy buildings.

Location

West Midlands or London

Days – from 225 – 250 per day, weekly pay, PAYE or Self Employed options
