As a Partner Journal Operations Specialist, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality peer review processes that uphold research integrity and strengthen trust among authors, reviewers, and editors. You will support journal operations from end to end, ensuring that peer review pipeline runs smoothly, and that our partners receive excellent service and support.
This is a high-impact role where you’ll collaborate across departments, manage communication with editorial stakeholders, and contribute to continuous improvement of our workflows, tools, and editorial experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the peer review pipeline for a selection of society partner journals, facilitating a robust and timely peer review process.
- Conduct research integrity checks and ensure all content adheres to Frontiers’ editorial and ethical policies.
- Deliver high-quality customer service as the main point of contact for authors, reviewers, and editors, providing professional, responsive, and helpful communication throughout the process.
- Treatment of manuscripts encountering a delay in the peer review process.
- Identify and escalate complex or sensitive cases, supporting the Partner Journal Operations Manager with resolutions.
- Liaise closely with matrix teams (Publishing Development, Product, Support, Production, and Accounting) to support the journal’s operational success.
- Maintain and improve SOP documentation related to peer review workflows and journal operations.
- Provide training and onboarding support to Editorial Board members and Editors-in-Chief.
- Support the delivery of operational insights, reports and strategies to internal and external stakeholders.
- Proactively highlight areas for process, system, or documentation improvements.

- You bring experience in academic publishing, editorial management, or a similarly process-driven, stakeholder-focused environment.
- You are confident managing operational workflows and communicating across diverse teams.
- You are detail-oriented, adaptable, and proactive – ready to take ownership of your responsibilities while working collaboratively.
- You thrive in a fast-paced, global environment and are driven by the opportunity to support open science.
Requirements
- A BA/BSc degree or higher.
- Experience working with editorial or publishing systems is a strong plus.
- Familiarity with CRM systems (e.g. Salesforce), project management tools (e.g. Jira) and reporting tools (e.g. Tableau) desirable.
- Experience working with SLAs or customer-facing KPIs is an advantage.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills; ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
