Band 6 Physiotherapist Job in Birmingham

University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced and motivated Band 6 Physiotherapist to join its dynamic therapy team at Heartlands Hospital in Birmingham.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Band 5 Physiotherapist looking for career progression or an experienced Band 6 Physiotherapist seeking a new professional challenge within the NHS.

The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary therapy team, providing high-quality physiotherapy assessment, treatment and rehabilitation to patients across acute hospital wards. A key focus of the role is helping patients achieve safe and timely discharge home or transition to the most appropriate ongoing rehabilitation and care services.

Key Responsibilities

As a Band 6 Physiotherapist, you will:

  • Conduct individualised physiotherapy assessments and develop appropriate treatment and rehabilitation plans.
  • Manage a varied caseload across acute hospital wards.
  • Provide physiotherapy interventions for patients with a range of clinical conditions.
  • Support patients in achieving their rehabilitation goals and facilitate safe discharge from hospital.
  • Work collaboratively with doctors, nurses, therapists and other healthcare professionals as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Maintain accurate clinical records and undertake clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.
  • Support the supervision, education and development of junior physiotherapists, support workers and students.
  • Contribute to service development, data collection and implementation of service improvements.
  • Deputise for the team lead when required.
  • Participate in a 7-day physiotherapy service.
  • Contribute to the emergency out-of-hours respiratory physiotherapy service.

Previous experience in an emergency or out-of-hours respiratory physiotherapy service is essential.

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications

Applicants should have:

  • A diploma or degree in Physiotherapy.
  • Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Good general education, including GCSE Mathematics and English at Grade C or above.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD), including recent postgraduate training relevant to the clinical speciality.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Membership of a specialist physiotherapy interest group.
  • Completion of a Clinical Educators course.

Candidates should demonstrate:

  • Clinical experience managing a patient caseload within the relevant speciality or NHS environment.
  • Experience with elderly and frail elderly patients.
  • Experience in respiratory, neurological and musculoskeletal physiotherapy.
  • Previous experience working on a physiotherapy on-call service.
  • Experience working with physiotherapy students and assistants.
  • Ability to assess complex clinical and non-clinical information and make appropriate decisions.
  • Ability to plan, organise and modify complex treatment and rehabilitation plans.
  • Experience supervising and delegating work to physiotherapists, assistants and students.

Experience within the relevant speciality area is desirable.
