Hybrid – 2 days per week in office (Holborn)

The Accounts Assistant supports the day-to-day financial operations of the FromCounsel group of companies, ensuring accurate processing of transactions, maintaining financial records, and assisting with reporting and compliance. This role is key to ensuring the smooth running of the finance function across a group of five UK trading companies, and requires a confident grasp of multi-entity bookkeeping and intercompany transactions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process supplier invoices, ensuring accuracy and correct coding across the correct group entity
  • Match invoices to purchase orders and delivery notes
  • Reconcile supplier statements and resolve discrepancies
  • Support Finance Manager in preparation and processing of supplier payment runs
  • Maintain strong supplier relationships and respond to queries
  • Support the Finance Manager and Credit Controller with monitoring debtor balances and follow up actions, as required
  • Perform regular bank reconciliations across all group bank accounts
  • Record and allocate receipts and payments
  • Maintain accurate financial records across separate Xero files for each group entity including maintaining monthly intercompany reconciliations
  • Assist with consolidated reporting at month-end
  • Assist with posting journals (prepayments, accruals, adjustments)
  • Maintain accurate financial records in the accounting system
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes
  • Review, verify, and process employee expense claims
  • Ensure compliance with company policies
  • Assist in preparing VAT returns and supporting schedules across both group and individual VAT registrations
  • Ensure records are maintained in line with HMRC requirements
  • Support audits and compliance checks
  • Assist in preparing management reports and financial summaries
  • Establish and maintain consistent filing structure within Microsoft SharePoint, maintain accurate filing (digital and, where relevant, paper)
  • Support ad hoc finance projects and analysis

Key Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar Accounts Assistant or finance role within a UK SME environment
  • Minimum AAT Level 3 (Diploma in Accounting) qualified (or qualified by equivalent experience), with a strong working understanding of double-entry, accruals, prepayments and basic financial statement preparation
  • Demonstrable experience of working across multiple entities or in a group structure
  • Experience with accounting software (e.g., Xero, ApprovalMax)
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office suite
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Experience working within a growth company environment
  • Familiarity with VAT processes and HMRC requirements
  • Exposure to a legal, professional services or subscription / SaaS business
