Your Impact

As a Multi-Skilled Engineer at our food manufacturing facility in Rainham, you will be responsible for ensuring that production equipment operates reliably, projects are executed efficiently, and safety standards are rigorously upheld. Your success will be measured through specific key performance indicators (KPIs) related to equipment uptime, project completion timelines, and adherence to safety protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Equipment Maintenance: Create and execute planned maintenance and repairs of the facility’s equipment as required.
  • Implement maintenance programs to enhance equipment reliability and uptime.
  • Ensure equipment safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Minimise response and resolution time to equipment failure or breakdown.
  • Health and Safety: Ensure compliance with health and safety standards
  • Implement safety policies and provide employee training.
  • Manage contractors as required
  • Train operator on equipment as necessary.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records related to equipment, safety, and compliance.

About You

Qualifications & General

  • Qualified Engineer with substantial experience in mechanical and electrical engineering, specifically within food manufacturing.
  • Mechanical and electrical certificate (NVQ3 or equivalent) as a minimum.
  • Time served apprentice in mechanical and electrical engineering.
  • Profound understanding and experience with industrial food manufacturing machinery and control systems, including PLC.
  • Proven track record in troubleshooting and maintaining electrical and instrumentation systems in a high-volume production setting.
  • Availability for overtime and on-call support as needed, with occasional evening/night shift work.
  • Evidence of Electrical and electronics qualifications is a prerequisite.
  • Demonstrate a proactive attitude towards Maintenance
  • Proactively promote the correct use of equipment
  • Work closely with the Hygiene team to ensure proper cleaning procedures are followed.
  • Improving engineering functions to reduce food safety risk.
  • Specific Electrical & Electronics Skills Required:
  • Electrical Maintenance: Experience with AC/DC drives and associated motors or pumps.
  • Experience with three-phase, single-phase, and low-voltage systems.
  • Knowledge of electrical installations and compliance with the latest regulations.
  • Control Systems and Automation: Advanced skills in PLC programming, fault diagnosis, and repair.
  • Knowledge of process automation equipment, including stepper motors, servo drives, and variable frequency drives.
  • Maintenance and troubleshooting of high-temperature ovens, heat sealers, check weighers, labellers, and other commercial kitchen appliances.
  • Ability to perform PAT testing and ensure compliance with electrical safety standards.
  • Health and Safety Compliance: Knowledge of health, hygiene, and safety standards specific to the food and beverage sector.
  • Implementation of safety protocols and training to ensure workplace safety and regulatory compliance.
