Overview
Are you an experienced nurse looking to either change direction, or develop and grow within your career? We are excited to offer a 12 month secondment opportunity in Frimley Critical Care. This is an excellent chance for a motivated band 5 staff nurse to join our supportive and dynamic team. We are one Trust with 3 hospital sites across Frimley, Ascot and Slough. Whether you\’re looking to broaden your clinical experience, develop specialist skills, or explore a new area within nursing, this role offers valuable exposure to a high-acuity environment and strong multidisciplinary collaboration. Frimley Park Critical Care Unit has 12 beds consisting of a mixture of ITU/HDU patients (Level 3 and Level 2). We care for a wide range of patients with complex needs across medical and surgical specialties, including post-operative, emergency, post primary coronary intervention providing varied services as mechanical support (IABP, hemofiltration). Our education programmes, supported by our practice education team, aim to provide staff of all grades with the essential knowledge and skills required to work on our busy, friendly unit. Successful applicants will receive a structured induction and training pathway tailored to critical care nursing.
Main duties of the job
- Under the supervision of the nurse in charge the post holder will be responsible for delivering safe, effective, and evidence based nursing care to critically ill patients (Level 1 – Level 3).
- Monitor, assess, implement and evaluate individual patient care in partnership with the patient, family, and multidisciplinary team.
- Safely manage the use of complex monitoring equipment, infusions, and ventilation systems.
- The post holder will work as part of a team and be accountable for the total provision, organization and direction of the nursing care for the patients in their care.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
- Be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care of the critically ill patient (L1-L3) under the supervision of the band 6 and band 7 critical care nurses.
- Participate in the setting, monitoring and evaluating standards of patient care.
- To actively support in the promotion of health.
- Demonstrate a sound knowledge of infection control standards and promote these within unit environment.
- To participate in and set standards of patient care based on sound research findings.
- To participate and assist in the systematic monitoring and evaluation of nursing care.
- Provide legible and comprehensive patient records to agreed Trust and NMC standards and guidelines.
- To liaise with Team Leader on untoward incidents, complaints and Team/Staff issues.
- To act in accordance with trust policies and nursing procedures.
- To maintain your own personal profile.
