About the role
As a Band 7 Clinical Specialist, you will take a lead in shaping the Occupational Therapy service for respiratory and medical patients. You will work with the Medical Team Lead OT to ensure patients within the Medical and Older Persons directorate receive excellent, patient-centred services.
Main duties of the job:
- Provide expert clinical support and advice, alongside the OT Team Leader, linking closely with multi-professional colleagues.
- Hold a clinical caseload, providing high-quality, person-centred clinical management for patients with complex acute and chronic presentations.
- Contribute to service development, incorporating evidence-based practice and staff development to support clinical and service growth.
- Act as Clinical Specialist to develop a competent, knowledgeable workforce delivering high-quality, person-centred care.
- Provide assessment, treatment, advice, evaluation and clinical management at an advanced level for complex patients.
- Participation in a 7-day working roster and bank holiday cover.

Qualifications
- Essential: Diploma / degree in OT recognized by College of OT; HCPC registered OT; evidence of post-graduate training in the relevant clinical field.
Desirable
- Evidence of relevant postgraduate courses; MSc study.
Skills
- Essential: Familiar with RCOT documentation guidelines (SOAP); ability to work in and manage a team in the absence of a manager; critical appraisal; presentation; computer literacy; teaching and facilitation skills.
Desirable
- Evidence of clinical audit and evidence-based practice (EBP).
Experience
- Essential: Experienced supervisor of staff and students; working knowledge of specialty anatomy and physiology; expert assessment, treatment planning and goal setting in the acute hospital setting; experience in ED in an acute NHS setting; ability to support junior staff in managing their caseload.
Desirable
- Previous band 7 OT experience or equivalent; experience of research.
Other
- Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check as per policy; current UK professional registration is required.
