Job Overview
An opportunity has arisen for a housekeeper role to work in our hospital in Frimley. We are interested in hearing from individuals who are willing to work hard within a strong, friendly team. They will be required to provide a KEY service within the hospital for both staff and patients. The post holders will be responsible for ensuring that the environment is of a high standard and meets the needs of patients and visitors. The main focus of the post holder is to facilitate the maintenance of a safe, clean, and comfortable environment for patients. They will work with the ward-based team to ensure patient safety privacy and dignity and courtesy in accordance with Trust values. This is a challenging but rewarding job and would be ideally suited to motivated team players. Housekeeping experience within healthcare and Knowledge of COSHH, BICs, Colour coding and infection control is desirable though this is not essential, as full training will be given.
Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
- Vacuum/mop sweep/damp mop/spot clean/spray buffing of floor surfaces, using machinery as required.
- High and low dust (including skirting boards/window ledges/curtain rails/notice boards/picture frames/furniture/doors and door stays)
- Vacuum carpeted areas, daily removal of spots or stains, and shampooing of carpets using machinery on housekeeping supervisor instruction.
- Collection and tagging of all rubbish, removing bags, clinical waste bins, sharps bins and flattened cardboard containers to designated collection points.
- Ensure waste is correctly segregated at the collection point, and placed into locked containers, as required by Trust policy.
- Replace bags on stands/containers, with the correct colour code, and ensure that containers are clean.
- Damp dust lockers, over-bed tables, chairs, beds, ledges, over-bed lights, pipes, radiators (remove cages as instructed) bed and locker wheels.
- Attend to deep clean requests throughout the hospital
- Damp dust/polish desks, furniture, fittings at nurse station and in offices, day room, and any other ancillary rooms attached to the area.
- Damp clean all office equipment i.e telephones.
- Clean baths, showers, and hand basins, polish all chromium fittings.
- Clean lavatories inside and outside of bowl, clean seat, handle, cistern and surrounding area, including sanitary bin.
- Ensure that lavatory brushes and holders are thoroughly clean after use.
- Replenish paper hand towel containers, toilet roll containers, hand soap, hand cream and hand gel dispensers with appropriate consumables.
- Ensure that all containers are clean inside and out.
- Clean and polish mirrors and glass on doors and partitions.
- Wipe down (sanitise) light switches, electrical sockets and electrical trucking
- Clean/Remove spots and splashes from paintwork on doors and walls.
- Assist with curtain changing.
- Infected rooms should be cleaned as instructed by ward sister/ housekeeping supervisor and following the procedure laid down in agreement with Infection Control.
- All cleaning equipment should be maintained in a clean and hygienic condition, and guidelines for correct storage of equipment and materials must be adhered to. Faulty electrical equipment must be removed from use, and reported to the ward charge nurse/ housekeeping supervisor immediately.
- Monitors stock control.
- A ‘follow up’ clean of surfaces contaminated by body fluid spillage will be carried out after the initial clean by nursing staff (see Trust policy on dealing with spillage).
- Assist with catering duties where applicable, prepare and serve continental style breakfast to all patients if applicable.
- Prepare and serve drinks to patients as required. Collect wash and change patient water jugs.(In absents of ward host) Collect, rinse and load ward dishwasher with dirty crockery and cutlery from patient breakfast service.
- Hand out patient menus and take orders for lunch service ensuring that the menu summary collation sheet for patients including special diets is completed as required. (In absents of ward host)
- Patient privacy and confidentiality must be respected at all times.
- Undertake any reasonable request issued by Supervisor/Manager.
