Job Overview
- The post holder will be a trained and competent phlebotomist, responsible for obtaining high-quality blood samples from patients across a range of clinical areas within the Trust. They will perform venepuncture independently, ensuring that all samples are collected, labelled, and transported safely and efficiently in accordance with Trust and national guidelines.
- In addition to clinical duties, the post holder will contribute to the training and development of new and trainee phlebotomists and support other healthcare professionals undertaking basic venepuncture or cannulation training.
- The role demands a high degree of accuracy, professionalism, and sensitivity when dealing with patients, many of whom may be anxious, unwell, or have additional needs.
- Full-time, 5 days per week (Monday–Sunday) on a rota basis between 07:30 and 20:00. A flexible approach to working hours is essential to meet service needs.
Main duties of the job
- The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day operational supervision of the Phlebotomy Team to ensure the delivery of a safe, efficient, and high-quality phlebotomy service across the acute Trust and external contracts supported by BSPS (Berkshire and Surrey Pathology Services).
- The role requires the individual to lead by example, ensuring staff are well trained, motivated, and supported to meet the needs of patients and clinical services.
- The post holder will demonstrate excellent organisational, communication, and leadership skills, maintaining high professional standards and always ensuring compliance with Trust and departmental policies.
