Are you an experienced food production engineer looking to lead a dedicated team and oversee all engineering matters at our Manchester site?

As our Engineer Supervisor, you will report directly to the Site Manager and lead a small engineering team to ensure all factory equipment is installed, maintained, and repaired for optimum operational efficiency. Your standard working hours will be Monday to Thursday (06:30 - 16:00) and Friday (06:30 - 15:00) for a 44-hour week, with a requirement to be flexible and work weekends when maintenance or breakdown response is required.

Process Optimisation & Engineering Management: Take ownership of all engineering matters on-site, including designing and optimising production processes, implementing lean manufacturing techniques, and managing departmental budgets.

Equipment Maintenance & Installation: Install new machinery and proactively maintain existing equipment to ensure maximum availability, diagnosing defects and testing all repairs before equipment is handed back to operations.

Rapid Troubleshooting: Attend to equipment breakdowns promptly with the correct tools to minimise machinery downtime and help the site meet its operational performance targets.

Safety & Quality Protocols: Implement and ensure strict adherence to company health and safety standards, maintain a clean and audit-ready workstation, and ensure compliance with high manufacturing standards.

Team Leadership & Out-of-Hours Response: Act as a role model to guide your team, communicate effectively across departments, and act as a site keyholder to respond to fire or intruder alarms out-of-hours when the Site Manager is unavailable.

What you will bring: To succeed in this role, you must bring a strong blend of technical engineering expertise, specialised compliance knowledge, and the leadership skills necessary to drive site performance.

  • Experience: You have proven practical experience working in a food factory as a food production engineer or maintenance engineer within high-speed manufacturing environments.
  • Hard Skills: You possess a strong technical expertise in maintaining complex machinery, specialised food safety knowledge, budget management capabilities, and the ability to interpret system drawings (electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic).
  • Soft Skills: You are a flexible, results-driven leader who communicates effectively, encourages team collaboration, and demonstrates a positive outlook when solving complex operational challenges.

Why join us: This position offers a fantastic opportunity to take full ownership of a site's engineering function, giving you the autonomy to implement lean techniques and directly impact production efficiency. You will be working in a fast-paced, high-speed manufacturing environment that challenges your problem-solving abilities daily, while providing a clear pathway for professional development and project leadership. We value dedication and flexibility, which is why we support our team with a structured Monday-to-Friday daytime schedule and reward weekend work with excellent peace of mind. In addition to a collaborative working environment, we offer amazing, industry-leading benefits, including an exceptional holiday allowance and a comprehensive pension scheme to secure your future.
