Who We Are:

Frieze is the world’s leading platform for modern and contemporary art, dedicated to artists, galleries, collectors and art lovers alike. Frieze comprises three magazines – frieze, Frieze Masters Magazine and Frieze Week – and seven international art fairs – Frieze London, Frieze Masters, Frieze New York, Frieze Los Angeles, Frieze Seoul, The Armory Show and EXPO Chicago. Legacy art fair brands The Armory Show and EXPO Chicago were acquired by Frieze in September 2023. In October 2021, Frieze also launched No.9 Cork Street, a permanent space for visiting international galleries in the heart of Mayfair, London.

What You'll Do:

We are looking for a Sub-editor to copyedit and proofread print and digital content, ensuring that copy is clear, fact-checked and published to a high standard.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Copyediting and proofreading
  • Second edit and fact-check all columns and features for frieze magazine
  • Second edit and fact-check exhibition reviews for frieze.com
  • When not copyediting reviews or articles for frieze, assist with copyediting content for frieze.com and the publisher’s other magazines, including fair publications, as needed
  • Proofread final files for EXPO Art Week and Armory Art Week and add corrections into InDesign
  • Collaborate on proofreading content for frieze.com
  • Collaborate on proofreading for frieze, print supplements, fair publications and one-off print products as needed
  • Enter proofing changes as needed and flag any design issues with the design team

Production:

  • Working with the Content Operations Manager and Editor, support the coordination and layout of EXPO Art Week and Armory Art Week
  • Monitor and update the Frieze style guide in collaboration with the cross-departmental working group

You Have These:

  • 3+ years’ experience copyediting and proofreading for arts and culture publications
  • A strong sense of what constitutes clear, concise and articulate writing
  • Meticulous attention to written and visual detail
  • Proven track record of delivering projects to deadline
  • Native or bilingual proficiency in English
  • Adobe InDesign, Microsoft Word and Mac OS

  • Experience in magazine publishing production
  • Experience using Notion

Maternity Cover - 12 months London, Surrey Street 10am-6pm, Mon-Fri
