We are currently recruiting for an experienced Test Engineer to support engine testing and development activities within a high‑performance engineering environment based in Warwick. This is a hands‑on role working with multicylinder combustion engines, supporting performance, emissions, durability, and calibration testing across multiple test rigs and development programmes.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, set up, and run engine tests covering performance, combustion, emissions, and durability.
- Operate and maintain engine testbeds, ensuring daily readiness and safe operation.
- Configure and monitor test cell systems including fuel, air, cooling, lubrication, and control systems.
- Work with tools and software such as AVL PUMA, ETAS INCA, AVL CAMEO, and Indicom.
- Install and validate instrumentation (pressure sensors, thermocouples, emissions equipment, flow meters, etc.).
- Conduct combustion analysis including heat release, knock detection, and variation studies.
- Process and analyse test data, producing clear technical reports and documentation.
- Troubleshoot rig, hardware, and measurement issues in a timely manner.
- Ensure all testing is carried out safely in line with high‑risk engine test cell procedures.
- Support continuous improvement of test methods, hardware, and measurement systems.
Experience
- Testing combustion engines and strong understanding of IC engine principles (combustion, air handling, fuelling, turbocharging, emissions, thermodynamics).
- Hands‑on experience with engine testbeds, including installation, setup, operation, and troubleshooting.
- Experience with test automation and calibration tools such as AVL PUMA, ETAS INCA, AVL CAMEO, and Indicom.
- Strong understanding of instrumentation set up and validation (pressure, temperature, fuel flow, emissions systems).
- Ability to analyse combustion data and interpret pressure traces and heat release results.
- Experience handling large datasets and producing clear technical reports.
- Strong understanding of structured test processes, quality standards, and engineering procedures.
- Single‑cylinder research engine (SCRE) experience.
- Emissions systems knowledge (FTIR, CLD, FID, PN, PM).
- Experience with calibration, turbocharging, EGR, and boost systems.
- Exposure to root cause analysis and problem‑solving tools.
- General mechanical or system testing experience.
